General Dru-Zod, also known as General Zod, is one of the three main antagonists of the Superman franchise and a major antagonist in the Supergirl and Justice League comics.

He is one of the greatest enemies of Superman (Clark Kent), alongside Lex Luthor and Brainiac.

He has the same powers and abilities as Superman and known for his "kneel before Zod" catchphrase. During the silver age of comics, Dru-Zod is a megalomaniacal Kryptonian who was in charge of Krypton's military forces and has a hatred for Superman since his father Jor-El is the cause for Zod's arrest an imprisonment in most continuities.

In New Earth comics, he is the husband of Ursa, leader of the Phantom Zoners and the biological father of Lor-Zod/Christopher Kent/Nightwing (Who is fostered by Superman and Lois Lane). Also in Prime Earth, General Zod is an ancestor of Mon-El. However they were unrelated in earlier comics.

History

Silver Age

He is freed from the Phantom Zone by Superman after serving his forty-year sentance but forced to send him back into the Phantom Zone.

The New 52

In his new origin, Zod was found by Zor-El and Jor-El after his parents died. He becomes one of Krypton's best soldiers but secretly has a hatred for the Char. He nearly started a war by unleashing a Char-looking creature on innocent Kryptonians. Jor-El discovers the deception and turns Zod over to the authorities. The council finds Zod guilty of treason and banishes him and his closest followers, Faora and Non, to the Phantom Zone. Angered, Zod develops an intense hatred for Jor-El

Somehow, Zod and Faora somehow managed to escape the PhantoM Zone when a mysterious event causes it to weaken. Zod travels to Earth, and with his Kryptonian powers for the first time, slaughters a group of travelers that attract the JLA's attentions. Wonder Woman restrains hm with her Lasso of Truth and Zod recognizes Superman as Kal-El, the sonof Jor-El. Realizing how dangerous he is, Clark has him imprisoned in the Fortress of Solitude's zoo.

DC Rebirth

As part of the DC Rebirth relaunch, General Zod is once again imprisoned within the Phantom Zone. He is trapped within the boundaries of the Black Vault, a secret facility hidden in the Laptev Sea.
