Yocheved is a major character in the 1998 film, The Prince of Egypt. She is Moses, Aaron, and Miriam's mother.

Role in the film[]

Yocheved was married to Amram (unnamed in the film) and together they have three children: Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Prior to the event of the film, Yocheved heard that the Pharoah, Seti I, had ordered the extermination of all the Hebrew baby boys. In fear for her youngest son's life, Yocheved stored Moses in a basket and sent him down the Nile River. Miriam followed the River and saw that Moses had been found by Queen Tuya and never gave up hope that her brother would return to them one day.

Yocheved passes away sometime later before she has the chance to reunite with her youngest son; however, she is mentioned later in the film when Miriam reveals to Moses that she and Aaron are his biological family and that their mother sent him own the river for him to be found by the Pharoah's wife. However, Moses quickly rejects Miriam's thinking before throwing her grasp on his armwalking away. At that moment, Miriam sings the lullaby their mother sung to him the day she was forced to give her youngest son up.
