- “Right. And we don't take orders from people that don't exist.”
- ―William Lennox to Seymour Simmons
WIlliam "Will" Lennox is a major character in the Transformers franchise. He is one of the Autobots' closest human allies who has the love of his friends and family because of his loyalty, charisma, and bravery.
Married to a woman named Sarah, they have a daughter together as he desperately tries to reunite with them. He has become a good friend of Sam Witwicky and an ally of Optimus Prime and the Autobots, usually coming to either of their aid in defeating the Decepticons.
History[]
Background[]
William Lennox trained to become a soldier in the military who eventually rose to the ranks as a Captain of the US Army Rangers. During training, Lennox became best friends with Robert Epps, and several other friends who he considered his brothers. He eventually married a woman, Sarah and had a daughter, Annabelle, who had been born when he was fighting overseas.
Transformers (film)[]
By 2007, Lennox rose to the ranks as a captain in the US Army Rangers with his wife and daughter back home. He later did a video chat with his wife and infant daughter. As Lennox dotes on his family, the video feed is lost; at first, Sarah and William think they lost the connection. However, Lennox and his team find themselves under attack by an unknown assailant that transforms itself from a helicopter into a robot. The creature is the Decepticon assassin, Blackout, who proceeded to destroy the US Army military base. Like the rest of his unit, Lennox survived and was presumed deceased when John Keller, the Secretary of Defense, reveals an attack on Qatar's base, worrying his wife back home.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen[]
By 2009, Lennox had become a lieutenant and one of the leaders of a new government operative team called NEST. He often partnered with Ironhide.

Trivia[]
- During the first script, Lennox was a sergeant for the film as opposed to being a captain like the first film.
- A later scene where Lennox comforts the dying Figueroa was cut. This was kept in the movie's novelization.
- Lennox struggling to reach through the Pentagon's phone line while dealing with an unhelpful operator during Scorponok's attack was based on a real life story that another soldier had encountered while recounting the story to Michael Bay.
- Originally, Will and his team were going to be based off of G.I. Joe characters, another franchise created by Hasbro. However, this idea was dropped so the film wouldn't feel like military recruitment.
- Like Sparkplug Lennox is a military official who was friends with the Autobots.
- Lennox and Simmons are the only main human characters from the first three films to reappear in the fifth movie.
