Weilan is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Ondina) of the third and final season of the Netflix original television series Mako Island of Secrets. She was a member of the Eastern Pod near the country of China and the only survivor after the creature, the Water Dragon, killed all her friends and family.
Since then, she began a life on land and submitted to being a land girl.

Weilan is an intelligent and sassy mermaid who clashed with Ondina when she first came to Mako. Weilan is friendly, patient, and gets along well with others, including Zac. She has a sensitive side and was deeply hurt by the loss of her pod, shedding tears over it. She also felt genuine guilt and expressed it through tears when she caused Evie to lose her tail.
Weilan is a student on Earth who demonstrates exceptional talent in her studies, receiving straight A's. She has been living on Earth since she was a child, so she understands human culture very well. Unlike Sirena, Lyla, Nixie, Mimmi, and Ondina, Weilan does not seem strange to humans. She prefers to sleep in her human form, which is more familiar to her, similar to how Rita is supposed to do.

- Her name was misspelled as Wai Lan in one article.
- Weilan is the only of the main mermaids that left her pod's Mermaid School without probably graduating, due to the Water Dragon's attack that wiped out her pod. Despite this, she owns a Moon Ring. This is possibly due the fact that she may had been home-schooled, like Lyla, Nixie, and Sirena by Rita Santos and Weilan by her grandmother.
- After the Water Dragon was dealt with, Weilan expressed an interest in going back to Shanghai and restarting the Eastern pod, with Ondina deciding to go with her.
- She has her own apartment in Shanghai.
- Weilan is the first mermaid who has no hardships with Zac, unlike other mermaids when they first meet him before. This is possibly because she did not grow up in a pod to develop said fear of mermen.
- Although she's from China, Weilan speaks with an Australian accent.
- Though it may be a spell to translate her Chinese into the Australian accented English.
- She is the only mermaid that is not a former enemy of Zac's.
- Along with all Eastern mermen, Weilan and her grandmother are the only surviving merpeople from the East who escaped unharmed.
- Weilan stated the other members of the Pod who managed to escape are all over China. However, her grandma is too old to be looking for the remaining of The Pod so she just settled in the nearest city with her granddaughter to focus on raising her.
- Weilan showed no discomfort when she slept on the rocks in Rita's grotto, suggesting Mermaids can be comfortable sleeping almost anywhere especially with blankets and a pillow.
- Weilan and Nixie are the only of the main mermaids who have never had any love interest (Although Nixie had some interaction with Cam, it was never officially confirmed that she had a crush on him).
