James "Rhodey" Rhodes is a major protagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in the 2008 film Iron Man. He is the best friend of superhero Tony Stark who was previously known as Iron Patriot before becoming War Machine. After Vision accidentally paralyzed War Machine in the Avengers' Civil War, Tony invented a pair of exoskeleton rigs to help Rhodey walk again. He is one of the Avengers to survive Thanos' Snap and help reverse it with the rest of his teammates.
In his debut, Rhodey was portrayed by Terrence Howard. However, since Iron Man 2, War Machine was portrayed by Don Cheadle.
