Vector Prime and the other twelve Primes were brought into existence by Primus at the inception of Cybertron, where they governed the planet with wisdom and compassion during its Golden Age. However, when a conflict with the Quintessons threatened their world, plunging it into a prolonged and brutal war, Sentinel Prime, the Primes' secretary, led the thirteen into a trap set by the Quintessons within a secluded cave. During this confrontation, Vector Prime lost his life, and the remains of his fellow Primes lay concealed in the cave for fifty cycles until they were unearthed by miners Orion Pax, D-16, Elita, and B-127.
Subsequently, a vision of Vector Prime and the other Primes manifested as Alpha Trion proclaimed a damaged Orion Pax to be the next bearer of the Matrix of Leadership, who would become known as Optimus Prime.
