Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister, also known as The Imp, is one of the main protagonists of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and its television adaption Game of Thrones.

While a more antagonistic character in the novels, Tyrion in the TV series has been mellowed down and given more honorable traits and  heroic qualities.

He is the youngest of Lord Tywin's children and member of House Lannister, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the Seven Kingdoms.

He is portrayed by Peter Dinklage, who played Eddie Plant from Pixels, Eitri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scourge (Transformers Reboot Films), and Mighty Eagle from The Angry Birds Movie.

However, in contrast to his family, Tyrion is shown to be a more benevolent and caring person, albeit one tied down by his flaws and the pain of his past. Because of this, Tyrion becomes good friends with Jon Snow due to both of them being outsiders in their own family.

Although he is a physical dwarf, he manages to survive using his wit and intelligence. Despite having some villainous moments, especially in the novels, he is ultimately a tragic and sympathetic figure, who can show kindness to the weak and the tormented.

  • George R.R. Martin has stated that Tyrion Lannister is his favorite creation, which explains why he has the most viewpoint chapters in the books. In fact, Tyrion has become a very prominent character in the books and TV series, alongside Jon Snow, Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen.
