Biography[]
Early History[]
Ty was born in a noble and prestige family in the Fire Nation. However she resented being a part of a matched set with her six identical septulet sisters, Ty Lin, Ty Lat, Ty Lao, Ty Liu, Ty Lum, and Ty Woo. Despite all seven Ty sisters being identical, each and found their own identities. As a child, Ty Lee attended The Royal Fire Academy for girls, where she became best friends with Fire Lord ozai's second child and only daughter Azula and Governor Ukano's daughter, Mai. Being Azula's best friends, Ty Lee and Mai were often invited to play together at the Fire Nation Royal Palace. However while Ty Lee was friends with Azula out of fear , she formed a genuine friendship with Mai despite their conflicting personalities.
Ty Lee and Azula often teased Mai about her romantic feelings for Zuko, Azula's younger sister, even once drenching them into the water fountain. The girls eventually grew apart when Ty Lee went to join the Circus, Azula went on a quest of her own to prove herself to her father and Mai eventually moved to New Ozai (previously Omashu) with her family.
Through Avatar: The Last Airbender[]

In the Comics[]
Throughout The Legend of Korra[]
Though she doesn't physically appear, Ty Lee's chi-block methods of removing someone's bending is introduced when Admin uses this technique to wreak havoc.
However Avatar Korra was able to restore other people's bending after Amon was killed.
Katara also mentions that most of her family such as Sokka and Aang and her friends such as Bato and presumably Suki are gone because now it's Korra's and her family's turn to bring peace to the world. This possibly includes Ty Lee but it's not confirmed.
Personality[]
Compared to Azula's stern demeanor and Mai's pessimistic nature, Ty Lee is the opposite: fun loving, energetic and positive. However while she remained fearful of Azula throughout their entire friendship, Ty Lee was closer with Mai, when up to the point where Ty was willing to block Schools bending and save Mai. While ty shows no refers saving her friend, she is often afraid of what Azula will do to them if she ever returns. She was also on good terms with Mai's aunt, Mura, almost acting as part of the family. She also developed a crush on Sokka despite being enemies with him at the time. However, this seems to have dissipated due to him being her leader, Suki'a boyfriend. Ty Lee's beauty and kind heart is one of the few reasons why several boys such as the one at the beach house party were immediately attracted to her. She is also kind and empathetic, as seen when she tries comforting Zuko about his inner turmoil. It is also down that once people earn Ty Lee's trust, she becomes a good friend and helpful ally. For example, she was empathetic towards Aang when he voiced his frustration with Zuko to her and Suki, having often felt this way about her friendship with Zuko, Mai and formerly Azula.
It is shown that deep down underneath all of Ty Lee's happiness and optimism, is a real person with an emotional turmoil. She often resented being a part of a matched set with her six other sisters and the reason why she left to join the circus to be her own person. However, Ty Lee ironically joins the Kyoshi warriors but unlike this group, Ty Lee can take off her makeup whenever she wants. She also realized that being part of a matched set is not all that bad because her sisters saved her, allowing Ty Lee to eventually reconcile with her sisters. When she does return to the Kyoshi Warriors, Ty Lee tells Suki that she likes being

- Chi-blocking: Ty Lee was a talented chi-blocker, having blocked Katara's and Azula's chi passage ways, thus temporarily removing their bending in "Return to Omashu" and "The Boiling Rock." She could also incapacitate skilled warriors such as Sokka and the Kyoshi Warriors in combat. She found that punching was extremely hurtful to her hands, causing her to often use her fingers instead. She later taught the Kyoshi Warriors how to block their opponents chi paths when she bonded with them in prison. Afterwards, Ty Lee and the Kyoshi Warriors utilized it in their training methods.

Out of all the members of Team Avatar, Ty Lee appeared to develop a good friendship with Toph Beifong. By 102 AG, the relationship between the girls had reached the point where Ty Lee trusted Toph with why she was feeling down and Toph took notice of the negative change in Ty Lee's attitude, caring enough to try and lift the girl's spirits. When Ty Lee encountered her sisters, her gloomy attitude increased because she felt down about being part of a matching set. Toph then commented that Ty Lee was her favorite out of the seven identical Ty sisters.
Sokka[]
Aang[]
Hailing from the Fire Nation and part of Azula's team, Ty Lee was a natural enemy of the Avatar. As such, the two easily got along after the conclusion of the Hundred Year War. Aang returned to help Zuko find them, where he happily reunited with Suki and Ty Lee, who both became good friends of him. Aang voiced his frustrations about his relationship with Zuko. Ty Lee seems to have an understanding with what Aang was saying. Having had hard friendships before (like with Azula and Mai), Ty Lee states that their frustration makes "their aura all twisted up in knots."
Ty Lee was also concerned about Aang and Zuko when they took a long time transverse with the Kemurikage. Suki told Ty Lee that they should give Zuko and Aang more time before trying to counter the dark spirits by themselves.
