Thorin II Oakenshield is the deuteragonist of Rankin/Bass' 1977 adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, or There and Back Again.
He is the leader of the thirteen dwarves who leads the company to reclaim the mountain, Erebor from the Dragon Smaug.

Thorin's role remains the same in the film.
However, the exception is that Arkenstone is absent. Instead, he lost respect for Bilbo because he misconceived war.
Like the books, Thorin later dies of his ounds inflicted to him on the battle field, but makes his peace with Bilbo on his deathbed at a tent in Dale.
Possessions[]
- Orcrist: An Elven sword Thorin found in the hoard of Trolls and became one of Thorin's significant weapons. The sword was forged in the Forges of the fallen city of Gondolin.
- Oak shield: When his shield was destroyed, Thorin acquired an oak for a shield, thus earning his epithet, Oakenshield.
- Key to the Secret door: Once in Thráin's possessions. Gandalf gave Thorin the Key in Bag End along with the map Thráin gave Gandalf for safekeeping. He wore it as a necklace around his neck. Thorin unlocked the door.
- Map of the Lonely Mountain: Along with the key, Gandalf gave the map to Thorin in Bag End. In Rivendell, they were able to translate what was on the map and discover moon runes on it. When the dwarves, Bilbo studies the map, which he used until the Thrush knocked. The Fate of the map is uncertain after Bilbo went in to Smaug's lair.
- Arkenstone: Thorin had the Arkenstone buried with him in the mountain.
Abilities[]
- Swordsmanship: Thorin is a skilled swordsman, having several swords, which included Orcrist and Deathless. He fought well in the Battle of Moria and the Goblins in Goblin-town.
