Thor Odinson is a major protagonist in the Marvel Comics who is the main protagonist of the comics of the same name and one of the main characters of The Avengers.
In the original comics Thor was the son of Odin and supposedly the goddess Gaia with Frigga as his stepmother. He is the Asgardian god of thunder and the crowned Prince of Asgard turned the King of Asgard following his father's abdication from the throne. He is one of the few people who can wield the hammer of Mjølnir, which can only be handled of those who prove themselves noble.
Throughout the years, Thor has been a protector of the earth, serving as a founding member of The Avengers, the Heralds of Galactus, Hydra's Avengers, Thor Corps, New Avengers, and various organizations.
He was reinvented by Larry Lieber, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor is portrayed by Chris Hemsworth While his universe self is portrayed by Dakota Goyo.
