Therizinosaurus (meaning "scythe reptile") is an extinct genus of therizinosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in Mongolia during the Late Cretaceous period. Therizinosaurus uses its long sharp claws to strip leaves off branches.
The Therizinosaurus appears in the Jurassic Park franchise. Therizinosaurus is one of only six therizinosaurs in the larger franchise. The other five being Beipiaosaurus, Erlikosaurus, Enigmosaurus, Nothronychus, and Segnosaurus. Of these six, Therizinosaurus is the only one thus far to appear in any of the franchise's main films.
In Jurassic World: Dominion, the Therizinosaurus is one of the many species that were cloned by BioSyn. One individual was blind and wonders through the forest while Claire tries to unbuckle herself. Therizinosaurus used its claws and swipe at the deer. However, this is an error. Although it chased Claire as if she were its prey, the Therizinosaurus was actually a herbivore and only attacked when it felt threatened.
In Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, a storyboard artist for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory said the writers would refer to the Therizinosaurus as "Xena" in the script. This was used for better character clarity.
