The Shire is a location in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies. It first appeared in the first LOTR film and made a final appearance in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
History[]
In TA 1601, The brothers Blanco and Marcho are originally from Bree. They are given permission by the King of Arthedain to travel westward. Finally the brothers and their followers reach a land with rich, fertile soil between the Brandywine River and the Far Downs and name it the Shire
Locations[]
- Eastfarthing Woods is a Shire location. Frodo goes here to surprise Gandalf and reads a book there.
- Frogmorton is a Shire location. It is only mentioned in An Unexpected Journey. Once in a while, Bilbo Baggins often took hiking trips to Frogmorton while on vacations.
- Hardbottle is a Shire location. It is mentioned in The Fellowship of the Ring. Hardbottle was a town in the northern parts of the Shire. The Bracegirdles are notable members there. (The Fellowship of the Ring)
- Michel Delving is a Shire location. It is the capital of the Shire. Samwise Gamgee ran for mayor and became it seven times.
- Southfarthing is a Shire location. It is only mentioned in The Two Towers. Merry and Pippin find longbottom leaf grown from Southfarthing in Saruman's storeroom.
- Westfarthing is a Shire location. Westfarthing is the western parts of the shire and the most-populated.
