Ted Knight is a posthumous character in the television series Stargirl. He is the original creator of the Cosmic Staff which was wielded by Sylvester Pemberton/Starman and Courtney Whitmore/Starwoman.
According to Pat Dugan, Ted Knight was The original creator of The Cosmic He later gave it to Sylvester Pemberton when he became the next Starman.

Starman in the original comics
Starman (real name Ted Knight) is a fictional comic book character from DC Comics. His sons David and Jack succeed him. He is a member of the Justice Society of America. Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Jack Burnley, he first appeared in Adventure Comics #61 (April 1941).
His and the other Starmen's successor is the young teenager Courtney Whitmore, who also controls his Cosmic staff and carries on the Starman legacy as Stargirl.
It is currently unknown if Ted was a member of the JSA or the original Starman like the comics.
