This is about Superman from the comics, mainly the New Earth and prime Earth continuity

Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us. And on my soul I swear: until my dream where dignity, honor, and justice becomes the reality we all share I'll never stop fighting. Ever.
―Superman

Superman, born Kal-El and legally named Clark Kent, is one of the main protagonists of the DC Comics. He is the titular main protagonist of the Batman comic books, one of the main protagonists of the Justice League comics and a supporting character in various comic books, especially Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Batman.

Born on the planet Krypton, Kal-El, was the last of his kind, alongside his cousin, Kara Zor-El, AKA Supergirl. He was adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and decided to use his powers as a force of good. As a teenager, Clark was also the local town hero of Smallville named Superboy until he graduated high school before moving to Metropolis, Clark becomes Superman, who fights in truth, justice, and honor to protect Earth and its people, sometimes called The Last Son of Krypton, the Man of Tomorrow, and the Man of Steel.

He started working as a reporter at the Daily Planet, where he worked under Perry White and became best friends with photographer Jimmy Olsen. In doing so, Superman has met his greatest love: ace reporter Lois Lane, who he later marries and has a son with; Jonathan. However, his biggest enemies have become billionaire Lex Luthor, Kryptonian General Zod, and the super computer, Brainiac. He is also one of the seven founding members of the Justice League and is the leader/founder of the Superman Family.

Superman has become one of the most iconic characters of DC comic book history and one of the most best-selling superhero comic books sold. He made his debut in Action Comics #1 (1938) and was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

History

Original Timeline

Kal-El was born on the dying world of Krypton to the scientist Jor-El and his wife, Lara. He was Krypton's first natural birth in a millennium, as children of Krypton were born through genetic engineering. He was adored by his cousin, Kara Zor-El. However, when Krypton was on the verge of destruction, Clark was only a baby at the time. Lara and Jor-El were desperate to save their son, so they created pods for Kal to escape in. Before they sent him away, Lara and Jor-El told Kal they loved him and would always be with him. However, Kal made the journey alone.

His pod crash landed in the fields of the Smallville farm that was owned by the Kents. There, Jonathan and Martha stumbled upon baby Kal-El and immediately grew attached to him. Jonathan and Martha adopted baby Kal and renamed him after his mother's maiden name, Clark. They hid his pod in the farm's cellar. Meanwhile, meteor rocks filled with Kryptonite (remnants of Krypton) landed as a series of meteor showers that occurred when Clark first arrived on Earth.

When he was growing up, Clark had a close and loving relationship with his parents. He became best friends with Lana Lang, whom he later dated, and Peter "Pete" Ross, who later became aware of Clark's secret. When Clark was starting high school, Jonathan unexpectedly died of a heart attack.

Adventures of Superboy

After this, Clark promised on his father's grave that he would use his powers to help people. At a young age, he began saving people as the Vigilante Superboy. His actions in Smallville would lead to the creation of the Legion of Super-Heroes, a group of vigilities inspired by Superman's codes and morals.

When he was in high school, Clark played football but quit once he realized he was using his powers to his advantage. Realizing that she couldn't keep her son in Smallville, Martha sent Clark on his way when he wanted to find out who he was.

Fortress of Solitude

Clark found his way to the Arctic, where he used the crystal that was in his pod to create the Fortress of Solitude. When he was inside,  Clark activated an artificial intelligence, Jor-El. The AI informed Clark that he was Jor-El and that he was his father. Jor-El proceeded to tell Clark that his real name was Kal-El and that the AI was meant to guide him as he became a Kryptonian hero.

Personality

Powers & Abilities

  • Kryptonian Physiology
    • Solar Radiation Absorption: When exposed to the light of yellow star, Superman possesses various superpowers, appearing almost god-like. However, under effects of red suns (Such as Rao), he is rendered normal but is still more resilient than humans.
    • Superhuman Strength: Superman possesses tremendous superhuman strength, allowing them to carry more than a million tons and create shockwaves with their strikes.
    • Superhuman Speed: Superman can run and fly at speeds faster than military aircraft. He can move, think and react fast enough to almost match speedsters such as the Flash, who can move faster than humans can even perceive. Superman generally uses his super speed while flying and even challenged his friend, Barry into a small race.
    • Nigh-Invulnerability: Clark's body is nearly invulnerable, with missiles, explosions and bullets being unable to so much as break their skin. He can also survive unharmed in environments of intense temperatures, exposure to harmful chemicals or even the vacuum of space. However, beings who are more powerful can break though their extremely advanced durability. However, even upon death, their cells are incapable of decay, making their bodies unable to decompose.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Under a yellow sun, Superman has vastly increased stamina, giving them the ability to perform superhuman feats for extended periods of time and rarely having to sleep.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: Superman is capable of recovering from non-fatal wounds at an accelerated rate. This is further enhanced when under direct sunlight, whereby he will heal all non-fatal wounds instantaneously.
    • Super Vision: Clark possesses a superior sensory arrangement of microscopic, telescopic, infrared, and ultraviolet visual capabilities.
      • Telescopic Vision: Superman has the ability to focus their vision to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics.
      • Microscopic Vision: The ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the sub-atomic level.
      • X-Ray Vision: Clark sees through almost anything, able to focus their vision past layers of matter, literally seeing "through" them. Because of this ability, he possesses a sight unparalleled by any other species, possibly perceiving x-rays, cosmic rays, or other forms of energy invisible on the spectrum of light which passes through Earth's atmosphere (and solid objects) after emission from stars. The only substance Superman cannot see through is lead.
      • Heat Vision: Superman has the ability to generate and project extremely high radiation or fiery beams of intense heat energy from the eyes. Visually, the power is typically depicted as two beams of fiery energy being shot from their eyes. These beams form can melt through solid metal and even destroy entire buildings with explosive force. However, prologued use of this power can lead to pain in their eyes though he can quickly recover.
    • Flight: Superman can manipulate the gravitational field within inches of their bodies such a degree that he flies at supersonic speeds in any direction. He can only use this ability, however, when on planets with weaker gravity settings compared to that of Krypton. Due to Krypton's immensely powerful gravity, Clark would not have been able to fly on their homeworld.
    • Immeasurable Agility
    • Reflexes
    • Nigh-Invulnerability
    • Immeasurable Accuracy
    • Superhuman Hearing: Due to their exposure to solar radiation, Superman has developed Incredible hearing, allowing them to hear extreme variances of sounds and frequencies, thus allowing them to pick up noises from across the globe. Superman has shown enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency.
    • Super-Breath: Clark's capable of surviving without air far longer than humans, allowing them to hold their breath for lengthy periods of time without adverse effects.
      • Vacuum Adaptation: When Clark is out in space, he is able to breathe outside of Earth's atmosphere and resist the intense cold without freezing.
      • Freezing Breath: Clark has strong capability of generating frost and ice.

Abilities

  • Genius-Level Intelligence
    • Master Tactician
    • Multilingualism: Clark can speak his natural Kryptonian and all of Earth's languages.
  • Master Combatant
    • Genius Fighting
    • Charisma
    • Leadership
    • Indomitable Willpower
  • Vast Connections

Weaknesses

  • Kryptonite
    • Green Kryptonite: Weakens Superman and is enough to kill him.
    • Red Kryptonite: Removes all of Clark's inhibitions, slowly turning his rationality, good nature and turning him evil.
  • Anger: His heat vision activates whenever he is angry.

Possessions

  • Kryptonian Technology
    • Kelex
    • Phantom Zone Projector

Clone/Adoptive Brother Conner is a partial clone of Superman, with the other half of his DNA consisting of Led Luthor's. At first, Clark did not want anything to do with him, refusing to acknowledge him as a son or even a brother. However, over time, Clark realized his attitude towards Conner was petty and uncalled for. Instead, they built a brotherhood with each other, eventually becoming brothers. It later became official when Martha Kent and Jonathan Kent adopted him.

Supergirl

Cousin

Kara Clark

Kara is Superman's paternal cousin; before Earth, Kara loved having Kal-El as a little cousin. She always visited her aunt and uncle just to hold Clark, affectionately calling him 'Kal' even when they are on Earth. When Brainiac attacked their city, Kara sent to Earth. It wouldn't be until years later, when Kara came to Earth. Clark made sure his cousin was taken care of by trustworthy people. Despite their struggling relationship, Kara has helped her cousin on occasions. Due to their different dynamics, Kal-El treats Kara more like a younger sister.

Lex Luthor

Krypto

As an adult, Krypto is not only Clark's dog sidekick, he is also of Clark's best friends. The relationship between Clark and Krypto in movie Legion of Super -Pets, is the main aspect of the film, as Krypto joins with other superheroes' pets in order to save his partner from the Evil Lex Luthor and his pet hamster, Lulu.

Dick Grayson

Superman and Nightwing

Good Friend/Surrogate nephew

Kal-El met Dick Grayson through Batman through their time in the Justice League and their relationship has evolved over the years.

After Dick broke away from Batman, Clark told the young man of an ancient Kryptonian tale about a hero called Nigthwing. This inspired him to take on the name as a new alias. Since then, Clark and Dick have become close, having a friendship similar to an uncle and nephew.
