This article is about Stoick the Vast from the 2025 remake of How to Train Your Dragon. For character from the original franchise, see Stoick the Vast (DreamWorks).
Stoick the Vast is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Valka Haddock) of Universal Pictures' live-action film series adaptation of DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon. He is the chieftain of Berk and Hiccup's loving but overprotective father who have a strained relationship with each other.
Official Description[]
Stoick the Vast is the formidable chieftain of Berk and a leader defined by strength, discipline and unwavering devotion to his people. A warrior of towering presence and commanding authority, he has spent his life upholding Viking tradition, ensuring the survival of his tribe and enforcing the long-standing belief that dragons are enemies.
After the death of his wife, Valka, Stoick channeled his grief into his role as Berk’s protector, becoming the pillar of strength his people needed. But beneath his hardened exterior is a father struggling to connect with his only son, Hiccup. He loves Hiccup deeply, but his son’s unconventional ways often leave him frustrated and unable to express it. He expects Hiccup to follow in the footsteps of great warriors, to embrace Viking traditions and to earn the tribe’s respect.
When Hiccup begins training a dragon, Stoick sees more than just defiance—he sees betrayal. His son’s actions challenge not only his authority but the very foundation of Viking life. For Stoick, protecting Berk’s way of life means everything. But Hiccup’s actions force him to confront a reality he never anticipated—one that challenges not just his beliefs, but his very identity as a leader and a father.

- Stoick's relationship with his wife will be more inclusive than the original. While it wasn't stated until the sequel, it is also outright stated in the official protection that Valka's death fuels his need to protect the village and therefore, his protectiveness of theri son.
- He never told a story about how he broke a rock by headbutting it when he was a kid during his conversation with Gobber.
- In the remake, Stoick is shorter. His son apparently reaches up to his eye level while in the original, Hiccup initially reached his father's shoulder.
