Squire Trelawney is one of the protagonists of Muppet Treasure Island. He was portrayed by Fozzie Bear.
Role in the film[]
Squire Trelawney pays for the voyage to find the long lost treasure on treasure Island after being presented a map by an orphan boy Jim Hawkins and his companions Rizzo and Gonzo.
Personality[]
Squire Trelawney is portrayed as comical, strange and described as his father's "rich halfwit son." He sometimes doesn't know the simplest words. This is shown when Trelawney conceives the ocean as a "big blue wet thing." When he shows Interest in the map and Jim, gonzo, and Rizzo's story, he immediately offers to pay for the voyage himself, showing him both reckless with his money and a slight thirst for adventure. He has a touch of lunacy, believing a man named Mr Bimbo lives on his finger, something that Jim, Gonzo and Rizzo find odd. During the group's meeting, it is revealed that Trelawney also hired Long John Silver to finding a crew without realizing they are a group of pirates, further revealing him to be innocent and a poor judge of character.
He is overall kind, caring and loyal, such as immediately obeying Captain Smollett's rule against drinking wine or any kind of alcoholic beverage and taking orders from Jim during the final battle. However, while he bravely fought a pirate, the Squire believed Mr. Bimbo saved him instead of realizing that it was his doing. It does show that deep down, the square has a touch of bravery, albeit misguided.
