Spa'am is the chief of the native pigs on Treasure Island and a supporting protagonist in Muppet Treasure Island. He is also second in command of Benjamina Gunn.
Role in the film[]
He and his tribe of pigs captured Captain Smollett, Gonzo and Rizzo, who were on the island to rescue their companion, James "Jim" Hawkins, who had been kidnapped by Long John Silver and the pirates. He introduced them to Benjamina Gunn, who also happened to be the former lover and former fiancé Smollett. Spa'am ordered for Smollett to be taken to Benjamina's Chambers. During Benjamina and Smollett's moment of reconciliation and their confrontation with Long John Silver, Spa'am threw his spear, attempting to scare Silver and his pirates off but he and the wild pigs soon retreated when they realized their weapons were no match for Spa'am's and his pigs' weapons. Spa'am led them away, leaving Benjamina and Smollett on their own.
However, during the final battle between the pirates led by Silver, and the crewmen of the Hispaniola let by Jim, Spa'am and Benjamina helped the Hispaniola corner Silver as he attempted to make his escape.
He later joined the other heroes on the Hispaniola with the prisoners in toll.
