Hiccup later tries to intervene by shooting down a Night Fury, only for a Monstrous Nightmare to attack him. A post the dragon lit on fire ends up crashing down and destroying a portion of the village. Despite Hiccup claiming that he took down a Night Fury, Snotlout and the others don't believe him. As Hiccup walks by, the other teens mock him for his failure. After Snotlout sarcastically tells him that he royally messed up, Gobber violently shoves him for his rude attitude.

After the Vikings leave for a new West to find the Dragon Nest, Snotlout begins dragon training and defends theDuring the first day of Dragon Training, Snotlout mocks Hiccup for his "deed" of knocking a Night Fury out of the sky. Snotlout helps the Vikings put out the house fire which Gobber claims that the Boneknapper found him again, causing everyone to mutter in annoyance. However, a Viking reveals that Gobber accidentally caused by leaving his underpants near the stove. Despite everyone ridiculing Gobber, Hiccup assembles the teenagers to join their mentor on their next epic adventure. Snotlout refuses to go on a quest for a dragon that doesn't exist.

However, the next scene changes to Snotlout rowing the Viking boat, showing he was forced to go. Despite Hiccup trying to cheer up the gang, Snotlout is less enthusiastic because they have been rowing for hours and still haven't found a sign of any Boneknapper. Fishlegs says that the Boneknapper will be easy because it has a very distinctive roar. However, Gobber contradicts Fishlegs by saying the dragon is a silent killer. As the kids get quiet Snotlout and his friends are startled by Phil's braying. After Gobber reveals the first time he met the Boneknapper dragon, it attacked him when he acquired a golden chest from a frozen Viking. However, Snotlout asks Gobber if he expects them to believe this story because a frozen Viking punched him in the face. As the group starts arguing with Gobber, Fishlegs notices they are about to crash on upcoming rocks but it is too late.

With Snotlout and the other kids trapped on a deserted island, Ruffnut complains that their in the middle of nowhere and no one knows where they are. As Fishlegs starts to point out that the dragon can find them because of another legend, Snotlout snaps at Fishlegs to stop talking. Before Fishlegs tells him off, Gobber interrupts again and reveals his first shipwreck also involved another incident with the Boneknapper. After two more ludicrous stories, Gobber starts to tell another tale, causing Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut to yell at Gobber in anger since he has wasted their time without proof. However, he shows the teenagers that has proof is a small white bone he has used as a belt buckle. After Hiccup (pushed by Astrid) points out they are still shipwrecked and need a way home, Gobber sets up a trap to catch the Boneknapper once and for all by having Fishlegs pose as him. However, Snotlout and the others are suddenly overwhelmed by the Boneknapper when he appears behind them.

The kids and Gobber quickly run and Phil traps them in the bone cage. The dragon breathes fire at them but they hide behind the bones. Meanwhile, Hiccup tells Gobber to take off his pants when he realizes that the Dragon is after Gobber because his bone belt buckle is part of the dragon's armor. However, everyone shouts "no" until Hiccup explains and the dragon then nabs Gobber, trying to take the bone by force. Fortunately, Gobber gives in and returns the bone to the Boneknapper, who becomes docile and shows his gratitude by snuggling up next to Gobber and giving the kids a ride home. The grateful dragon decided to give the teenagers and Gobber back to Berk.

On the way home, Snotlout costume that he always believed Gobber's story, despite the facts stating otherwise. They are followed by other Boneknappers joining them in flight (as stated by Fishlegs, the Boneknapper's roar is its mating call). With that in mind, Gobber is certain Stoick and everyone else in Berk will believe him now.
