The Smilodon are saber-tooth tigers. They are an extinct genus of felid mammal that lived in both North and South America during the Early Pleistocene to Early Holocene epoch. It is famous for its 7 inch long saber canines. Just as the film, Ice Age, in real life they hunted in packs.

Real life[]

The species Smilodon populator was the last and largest of the sabertooth cats, ranging from North to South America during the Pleistocene. Commonly referred to as a saber-toothed tiger, or saber-toothed cat, they are by no means related to tigers or other pantherines (also known as big cats) as they belong to a distinct subfamily.

TV Series[]

  • In Garfield and Friends, a sabertooth tiger escapes from a museum, stealing two teeth and quick-dry cement. He then finds Garfield, places the teeth on him, and tosses him over the fence, leading the museum staff to chase Garfield instead. Garfield cleverly tricks the museum staff into boarding a bus, allowing him to return home. Meanwhile, the tiger harasses Jon and Odie, causing them to flee the house and accidentally bump into Garfield, causing the teeth to fall off. The family is forced out of the house, prompting Jon to call the museum and authorities, which draws local news and neighborhood attention. However, the K-9 soldiers are frightened away by the sabertooth. Garfield re-enters the house, and the sabertooth is finally scared off when Garfield invites Nermal over, who annoys the tiger with his cuteness. The tiger ultimately surrenders to the museum authorities, who take him back. Jon and Odie question Garfield, who comments that even Nermal could make a sabertooth sick. After the tiger's capture, Garfield ponders whether they were better off with the sabertooth when Nermal starts to annoy him, Jon and Odie.
  • In Lilo & Stitch, Retro use his tongue to turn a tiger into Smilodon and escaped at the wildlife preserve.
