Scott McCall and Derek Hale is one of the main relationships featured in the TV series, Teen Wolf.
History[]
Season 1[]
Upon first meeting each other at a portion of the Preserve near the Hale house, they were wary of each other due to Derek's mysterious past and return to Beacon Hills. Derek sensed Scott was a recently bitten werewolf and lured him away from his house by hanging Allison's jacket on a tree branch. After saving the young Werewolf from Hunters, Scott blamed Derek for giving him the Bite and ruining his date with Allison his new transformation; however, the older Werewolf told Scott that the Bite is both a gift and what bonded them as Werewolf brothers. He kept an eye on Scott from a distance, threatened him numerous times and often stayed in the shadows. Despite these threats, Derek insisted that he was only trying to help the latter, who refused to believe it. He also disapproved of Scott and Allison's relationship due to them being on opposing sides. Derek was further annoyed with Scott and Stiles when they got him arrested and alerted the Hunters of his presence. Despite this, Derek did empathize with Scott when he initially thought that he killed Mr. Meyers, the bus driver and told him how to retrieve his memories from the night before. Even though this helped, Scott still believed that Derek was his sire and that he murdered his own sister until he fully recovered the memory of Peter attacking the bus driver and Derek told him that the Alpha was the one who turned him. After Kate Argent shot him with Wolfsbane, Derek went to Scott for help, who reluctantly helped him due to their reliance on each other.
After telling Scott that the Argents were responsible for causing the fire and putting Peter in a catatonic state, Scott reluctantly accepted Derek's help and the older Werewolf trained him to control his transformations. However, the older of the two found it hard mentoring him, because a bitten Werewolf has trouble containing their temper compared to a naturally born one, even forcing him to break off contact with Allison or any more distractions in his life. Scott only got further irritated by Derek when he kept the secrecy of what a vengeance spiral was and thinking that Deaton was the Alpha. In "Night School," Scott refused to believe that the Alpha killed Derek when he and Stiles couldn't find his body when Peter impaled his nephew with his claws. During his second Full Moon, Derek reluctantly fought Scott when he lost his temper upon seeing Allison and Jackson together and the Hale werewolf successfully got Scott to stop. After carrying him home, Derek carried Scott home, where the younger male asked if there was a cure to lycanthropy. Unsure of if it will work, Derek admitted that he would have to kill the Alpha if Scott ever wanted to become human again. After seeing him conflicted, Derek promised Scott that if he helped him find the Alpha, they would kill him. However, this agreement fell through when Scott learned that Peter was the Alpha and Derek joined his uncle's side. Seeing this as a betrayal, Scott tried reminding Derek that Peter was the one who killed Laura, but this didn't work.
Season Two[]
Scott and Derek were reunited in "Omega," when he saw him chasing an omega werewolf, who he accidentally led in a hunter's trap. He then took Scott to hide behind a tre. Even though the younger werewolf convincing Derek to save him, the Alpha refused as he restrained Scott to prevent him from being killed. However, Derek also wanted to show Scott the ruthlessness of the Argents as Gerard murdered and he forced Scott to watch. Derek told the beta werewolf, to see what the hunters had done and why they needed each other. However, Scott continued to reject Derek when his former mentor tried recruiting him into the Hale pack for various reasons. This included Scott's fear that his affiliation with the Hale pack would put his relationship with Allison at risk and the fact that Scott had a pack of his own, which he shared with both Allison and Stiles. Additionally, he believed that Derek turning teenagers into werewolves left in right was what was putting them all in danger.
After Scott learns that Derek turned his classmates Erica and Vernon Boyd into werewolves, he went to confront Boyd at the skating rink to prevent his transformation. However, Derek has already bitten Boyd by then. Angered, Scott tries warning the new werewolves that Derek is just using them for his own selfish reasons. None of them believed him and Scott successfully fought off Derek's lackeys, and it was presumed that Derek was trying to teach his betas a harsh lesson. However, Derek decided to fight Scott himself and it was a battle that the younger werewolf could not win because of Derek's status as an alpha. The werewolf mercilessly attacked his former protege without remorse leaving a wounded Scott on the floor of the ice skating rink with the message clear: join the Pack or be killed.
