Schmendrick, also known as Schmendrick the Magician, is the deuteragonist of the Peter S. Beagle novel, The Last Unicorn and the Rankin / Bass production of the same name. He is the love interest of Molly Grue, one of the traveling companions of The Unicorn and a struggling magician.
Background
Schmendrick is an aspiring magician who struggles with his magic powers and works for an elderly sorceress, Mommy Fortuna. However, when Schmendrick meets the Unicorn, he helps free her. Afterwards, he joins the Unicorn on her quest to free her kind from their imprisonment under a dangerous entity known as the Red Bull. Throughout the journey, Schmendrick comes to learn that becoming a powerful sorcerer isn't really what matters, but his friends after all. He can only truly become immortal if he masters his powers.
