Scauldy is a minor character in Dragons: Riders of Berk episode, "Free Scauldy". He was a Scauldron who Ruffnut Thorston trained and befriended when his wing was caught underneath a fallen boulder.
Like other wild dragons, Scauldy was harsh hostile towards humans, even throwing Hiccup and the team off course when they tried to douse him with buckets of water to prevent him from dehydrating. However, he calmed down once he smelled Ruffnut's hair, as she used fish oil to keep it healthy. After bonding with Ruffnut, he became more comfortable around the human children, even allowing them to create a sling for his wing so he could fly. However, the first time, it had to keep its eye on Ruffnut so that he wouldn't be agitated by the others. At the end of the episode, Scauldy and Ruffnut share a heartfelt goodbye.
His episode "Free Scauldy" is a reference to the 1993 film Free Willy. Like the film, a sea creature (Willy and Scauldy) is befriended by a human teenager (Jesse and Ruffnut)
He loves the smell of Ruffnut's hair because she uses fish oil to maintain its sleek and healthy appeaance.
This is a reference to the short Book of Dragons, where Hiccup, Fishlegs, Astrid and Gobber explain to the viewer that befriending a Scauldron is easy if something reminds them of home. In the short's case, it was dousing yourself in sea water; in Ruffnut's case it was her hair.
Scauldy is the third dragon that Ruffnut trained.
However, he is the first dragon she trained by herself, as she trained her previous two dragons, Barf and Belch, and Head, her Terrible Terror with her brother.
