“ | All but one: me. I lived. But a funny thing happened when I did... You, Joe, Wally, Cisco... you all shunned me because I wasn't the true Barry Allen. I was an aberration! A disposable hero! Future you failed to mention that, didn't he? | „ |
~ Savitar to Barry Allen |
“ | Like I told you from the beginning... I am the Future Flash! | „ |
~ Savitar finally revealing his true identity, and his most famous quote. |
- “Savitar was the first man ever granted speed. And over time, he became the god of motion, the fastest of us all.”
- ―Jay Garrick on Savitar, to Barry Allen and false rumors he was a god
Savitar is the tertiary antagonist of The Flash. He is a time remnant of Barry Allen who posed as the God of Speed and hopes to gain vengeance on Team Flash for not treating him like the real Barry Allen. This also includes his adoptive father Joe West and killing his wife, Iris. To do so, he possessed Julian Albert and posed as Alchemy by reviving people's memories from Flashpoint. However, Savitar was killed by Iris West and sequentially, erased from existence.
Savitar was temporarily pulled out of 2017 in 2023 by Cobalt Blue and became part of the legion of Zoom. He would gain power from the Negative Speed Force, but was later betrayed.
History[]
Post-Flashpoint[]
Barry Allen from 2021's life was relatively the same until Savitar murdered Iris West in front of him by stabbing her in the back with his sword. At one point they went up against Clifford DeVoe and came up with the thinking inhibitor in the room. In the original timeline, after Savitar killed Iris West, the woman he loved, Barry Allen 2021 distanced himself from his family and friends, even abandoning his adopted father, Joe despite promising Iris, that they would never abandon each other. Barry created time remnants of himself to defeat the armored Savitar. During the Battle, Savitar spared one of the time remnants so his younger self could become Savitar. According to the time remnant, his creators, Wally, Cisco, and Joe never treated him as Barry Allen and only as an aberration.
Alone and overwhelmed by his painful memories, he became desperate to end his pain eventually realizing that "God" feels no pain and he eventually decided to become one himself. Savitar's existence was the result of a causal loop in which he had no beginning or end but only an endless series of events that led to his creation. Eventually coming across the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar used it to create his mechanical suit of armor. Both became a part of his power and became a god among men.
In this timeline, he allied with Killer Frost in the past and manipulated both her and Cisco to duel each other. The result was Cisco lost both of his hands after Killer Frost froze and destroyed Cisco’s hand, bringing an end to his career as Vibe and preventing him from ever accessing his interdimensional powers ever again. Meanwhile, Killer Frost locked Caitlin in the inner consciousness in her mind, and Killer Frost herself was locked up in a special cell in the meta-wing of Iron Heights Penitentiary with Julian Albert taking care of her. In this timeline, Frost was aware of Savitar’s identity and despite Barry interrogating her in the past, he could never figure out Savitar’s identity. Wally at one point faced off against Savitar to avenge Iris’s death. However, Savitar defeats Wally by shattering his spine and leaving him in a catatonic state.
In 2020, Tracy managed to figure out the technology to trap Savitar in the Speed Force and helped the Flash defeat his greatest foe.
During his time imprisoned in the Speed to was caught in a time loop, where he was trapped to relive the most tragic day in his life. driving him further into insanity and thus wanting him to destroy his true self's life even further. He soon began spreading the myths that he was the first Speedster to ever exist and that he was a god amongst men. As the Savitar mythos grew, Savitar's rumors of godhood spread throughout the multiverse. He was eventually worshipped by cults throughout the multiverse.
Fall of the God[]
In his attempt to kill his younger self, Savitar was ironically shot in the back and killed by Iris West, the very same woman he was supposed to kill. He was subsequently erased from existence, as was his armor. Barry later took Savitar's place in the Speed Force.
Season 5[]
In "What's Past It's Prologue" (show's 100tgv episode) unbeknownst to either of them at the time, the flight was being witnessed by Barry's future self and his daughter Nora West-Allen, who was visibly shaken at the sight of seeing her mother kill Savitar. However, this didn't affect Nora's relationship with Iris but rather showed her a side of her mother she never saw before. When no one was looking, Nora managed to steal a piece of Savitar's armor and brought it into the Speed Force with her father before he could be erased when the time paradox caught up with itself.
Personality[]
Powers & Abilities[]
- “Savitar was the first man ever granted speed. And over time, he became the god of motion, the fastest of us all.”
- ―Jay Garrick to Barry Allen on Savitar
- Speed Force-Negative Speed Force connection/Meta-human physiology: As a time remnant of Barry Allen, Savitar possessed a powerful connection to the Speed Force. Savitar potency to draw power from the Speed Force greatly exceeded all other known users to the point that he claimed to be the "ruler" of the Speed Force. However, it was later revealed that he was that fast, only because he was trapped in the Speed Force, as he was seen to be around the same speed as 2017 Barry when he got out. Savitar's powers could be used when exposed to meta-human power dampeners, however, it is possible that he was only able to do so, because he was trapped in the Speed Force at the time. After accepting Cobalt Blue's proposal, Savitar was empowered by the Negative Speed Force in 2023.
- Accelerated healing factor: Savitar like all other speedsters had a healing factor that allowed him to regenerate and repair damage to his body at great speeds. If Savitar didn't travel through time to spread his reputation as the Hindu God of Motion then he was alive for thousands of years and remained as youthful as ever. However, it's adversely possible that his "eternity" in the Speed Force Prison was what slowed his aging, and his ability to break through the prison was what allowed him to spread his myth. Despite his increased connection to the Speed Force likewise powers, the efficiency of his healing powers appears to have been reduced. He was not able to heal from the scars on the right side of his face, though whatever burned him may simply be too damaging for even him to heal.
- Electrokinesis: When running at superhuman speeds, Savitar generates yellow lightning but once inside his armor he generates white lightning
as he is the only known speedster in the multiverse whose lightning is this color. Like Barry, Savitar is capable of projecting electrical arcs for attacks when moving at super speed. Savitar also had the unique ability to absorb and redirect any electrical arcs launched at him. After Savitar tapped into the Negative Speed Force, his white lightning turned into red. He was also still able to hurl lightning at his opponents. - Superhuman agility: Barry possessed superhuman bodily coordination, balance, equilibrium, and dexterity. He can change direction immediately, thus allowing him to make sharp turns and easily maneuver while moving at immense speed.
- Superhuman speed: Savitar was unfathomably fast despite the huge suit of armor he wears, his astronomical speed allowed him to race around Alchemy's lair and instantly kill multiple cops by running past them. Upon their first encounter, despite Barry's speed exceeding his other speedster enemies, his movements were still slow-motion in comparison to Savitar, who effortlessly countered and outmaneuvered the original Barry. He later showed equal dominance against the veteran speedster Jay Garrick and simultaneously against Barry and Wally. Even after being freed from his prison, Savitar continued to dominate speedsters like Barry and Jesse Quick, who were only able to fend him off by outsmarting him for a decent enough hit, but the combined efforts of Barry, Jay, and Wally together were still not enough to overwhelm him. The only known speedster that was able to defeat Savitar was Barry from After Flashpoint. In their last fight, Barry was able to reach a speed higher than that of Savitar. Savitar seemed to be faster as a user of the Negative Speed Force than he was before being erased from existence, as he was able to keep up with Nora West-Allen, who in turn can keep up with the current version of the Flash, who is way faster than his 2017 version.
- Bodily vibration: Even when wearing his suit, Savitar can still use his ability to vibrate his body for various effects, such as to transfer extreme amounts of friction and kinetic energy through physical contact or to phase through objects. When encased in sub-zero ice, he was able to almost instantly break free from his confinement and when trying to kill Cisco Ramon, he attempted to do so with his vibrating hand to mirror Cisco's erased death at the hands of Eobard Thawne.
- Time travel: Also like Barry, Savitar can willingly traverse the time stream to increase his influence and create his following. Having traveled back to past eras of history searching for and infusing his power into the Philosopher's Stone and founding his own Cult of followers who fanatically serve him.
- Interdimensional travel: Savitar like Barry could run so fast that with enough speed he could open dimensional breaches to travel the multiverse. Savitar's ability to use dimensional breaches, allowed him to use sudden movement allowing him to shift and warp about and appear out of nowhere to new locations. Combined with his raw speed, his actions could allow him to appear as if he was at multiple places at once and rapidly switch the terrain to his preference. Savitar's unique ability for near teleporting like speed, may have been due to the unique circumstances of his imprisonment as has never showed this ability again once he was freed from the Speed Force. He was, however, able to effortlessly open a breach that led precisely inside Earth Two's S.T.A.R. Labs.
- Energy absorption: Using his suit, Savitar was able to absorb copious amounts of energy and redirect it from his suit, as white energy. This was demonstrated when Jesse Quick threw a lightning bolt at him, and Savitar merely absorbed it and redirected it back at her.
- Seismokinesis: Savitar is somehow capable of generating earthquakes. This ability is likely linked to the absurd amount of kinetic energy he transfers into the ground with every step he takes, or it could be a function of his armor.
- Superhuman momentum: Savitar can generate great amounts of physical force through the kinetic energy his immense speed generates. This allowed him to kill several cops and knock them into the air by merely running past them when he first encountered the younger Barry. He was also able to jump several feet into the air due to running so fast.
- Superhuman perception: Savitar is easily capable of keeping up with and perceiving the movements and actions of speedsters.
- Superhuman stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stresses of superhuman racing without noticeable distress. He is repeatedly shown to be run for an extended period with his heavy armor with no ill effects.
- Superhuman strength: Savitar possessed peak strength and once inside his armor his strength is further augmented by his armor. Savitar was able to lift and drag a fully grown man off the ground by their throat, all with a single hand. Savitar was able to pummel and toss around Barry, Wally West, and Jay Garrick with one hand. With one punch, he was able to send Jay Garrick flying over a building.
- Philosopher's Stone connection: Savitar traveled back in time to locate the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful artifact made of calcified Speed Force energy, and established a connection to the Philosopher's Stone. It is yet unknown as to how he managed to establish a connection.
- Speedster weapons immunity: The Philosopher Stone, while connected to Savitar, immunized him from weapons that can affect speedsters who draw power from the Speed Force. While wielding it, Savitar was protected from being trapped in the Speed Force itself. The Stone also protects him from being re-imprisoned in the Speed Force a second time.
- Possession: Once establishing a strong enough connection to a person's mind, Savitar can completely overshadow their actions, turning them into his unwitting pawn, and possess them. He did with Julian Albert to turn him into "Alchemy", and enabled them to wield the power of the Philosopher's Stone.
- Telepathy: With his connection to the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar can manipulate others' minds. He can telepathically communicate with them and project illusions that only they can see. This power can still be used even while sealed away in the box. However, it is considerably weakened, as he can only prey on a person's insecurities, such as creating illusions of their lost loved ones, to con them into releasing him.
- Power bestowal through recognition: The Philosopher's Stone can even return the powers of individuals who have been wielding them during the Flashpoint Timeline. While in Flashpoint, he was unaware of some metahumans, like Magenta and Shade, but somehow gained knowledge of them. It would appear that the Stone bestows metahuman powers to those who had powers in alternate timelines.
Abilities[]
Trivia[]
- This character is a composite character of Savitar and Future Flash, and Doctor Alchemy from the comics.
- Savatar is traditionally an enemy of Wally West over Barry Allen. However, he is a personal enemy of Barry in the Arrowverse since this version of the Flash is closer to Wally's comic book counterpart and has some of his Rogues
- The Future Flash is an evil version of younger Barry who comes to the past to kill his younger self, believing him to be responsible for the death of their nephew Wally West
- At first glimpse, when Savitar says "I am the future, Flash" he means he is going to conquer Barry one day. However, this foreshadows that Savitar is actually Barry from the future or rather a version of him.
