Sarabi is a major character in The Lion King franchise. She is a supporting protagonist in the original film and a cameo character in its interquel, The Lion King 1 1/2. Sarabi is the former queen of the Pride Lands, the wife (later widow) of Mufasa, and the mother of Simba. She is the paternal grandmother of Kion and Kiara, the mother-in-law of Nala, and the sister-in-law of Scar. She is led to believe her son was killed in the stampede with his father, only to reunite with him when he was an adult. Sarabi fought against Scar and they won the Pride Lands back as Simba brought back life and peace to their home.
