Runaan is a major character in the TV series The Dragon Prince. He is the leader of the Moonshadow Elf Assassins, the husband of Ethari and the foster father of Rayla. He was also the one who supposedly killed King Harrow and the bow used to kill him was found by Rayla when she was sneaking in the catacombs below Callum's office.

Runaan was trapped in one of Lord Viren's coins, with Callum and Rayla successfully freeing him from his coin. He later joins heroes in the fight against Aaravos.

Personality

Runaan's spirit, while existing in the spirit world, became disoriented, damaged, and corrupted, compelled to repeatedly experience the night he took King Harrow's life, burdened by the remorse of his actions against Rayla on that fateful evening. Nevertheless, he found a path to self-forgiveness when Rayla affirmed that no matter what, she was still his and Ethari's daughter.

In Book 7, Runaan retained his stubbornness, as his own goal was to see Ethari despite still being injured. Over the course of the book, Runaan at first tolerated Callum at best but learned to trust his judgement over time.

Trivia

• Runaan is the second adoptive parent introduced in the series, after Harrow.
• In Season 7, it is revealed that Runaan did not kill Harrow. Viren has swapped Harrow's soul with Pip, meaning Runaan killed the bird instead.
