According to Morgause, The staff was forged by the Rowan tree that grew on the Isle of the Blessed. Only the High Priestesses of the Old Religion had set their eyes upon it.
Season 3[]
Since Morgana's magic wasn't strong enough, Morgause gave her the staff to raise an army of enemies from Camelot's mausoleum. However, the staff was destroyed by Merlin when he took his sword and cut it down. The reanimated skeletons were destroyed and Camelot was saved again. However, Morgana took credit for destroying it to prevent Merlin from exposing her treachery to Camelot.

Necromancy: Can summon the bones of fallen soldiers by turning into skeletons. Morgan's needed to slam the Staff and a mausoleum and summon the fallen warriors' skeletons.
Semi-invulnerability:. The Staff is practically invulnerable and impervius to any attack. However the staff can still be chopped down with an enchanted sword which is how Merlin destroyed it during the Battle of Camelot. After it was destroyed, the skeleton zombies collapsed to pile of bones and rendered the step useless.
