Background
Concept and Creation
Ron was the first character created before JK Rowling created the novel. He was the only one who wasn't changed throughout each draft.
He was also partially inspired by Rowling's best friend, Sean Harris but said that she never set out to describe Sean in Ron but rather Ron having a turn of phrase in a way.
In the film adaptations, Rupert Grint was cast to play Ron but lacked his long nose, large hands and feet.
Personality
Ron was a very loyal, brave, strong and humourous person, but sometimes immature, and insensitive. He had a sardonic, wisecracking sense of humour that often brought his friends laughter and relaxation. However, as Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood pointed out, his humour could occasionally be hurtful, even if unintentionally. During his time searching for Voldemort's Horcruxes with Harry and Hermione, Ron matured greatly, and even took to leading the trio when Harry temporarily fell into a depressive mood. Always willing to stand up for his friends and family even when angry with them, Ron never stopped standing up for Hermione when she faced Muggle-born related prejudice and hatred. He also stood by Harry's side when he was met with disbelief and scorn from his classmates and Wizard society in general. Ron frequently demonstrated great bravery in attempting to protect those he loved, from facing his arachnophobia to stand by Harry in his second year to trying to take Hermione's place when Bellatrix Lestrange isolated her for interrogation with the Cruciatus Curse.
Due to growing up in a household with five older brothers and one your sister, Ron could be occasionally selfish or jealous of other people. He would always try to amount to things to please his parents, with one of his greatest desires in the Mirror of Erised being the Head Boy of Gryffindor. This has put his strain on some of his relationships with Hermione, who his a star student by most standard, and Harry, who is a respected student and revered as a war hero to. He also heard that his mother loved him the least and had a great fear of Hermione leaving him for Harry, as seen through Ron wearing Slytherin's Locket.
He is also reckless and can't think things through. For example in Chamber of Secrets, Ron thought of a way to save Harry from being imprisoned in his own room at the Dursleys by using his father's magical flying car by stealing it with Fred and George and again to get to Hogwarts without thinking of sending an emergency message to school that they missed the train. Ron can be slightly foul-mouthed at times, this was shown when he was angry at Harry for supposedly entering the Triwizard Tournament and told him to "piss off." He is quite hostile to Draco Malfoy, telling him to "shove off" and once in a while muttering "bloody hell." He can also be ignorant of other people's feelings, as he hurt Hermione by insulting her after she mattered a levitation spell and in their structure year after a credits game. In the latter's case, after he kissed Lavender, Ron couldn't understand why Hermione was upset with him when he faced Harry and her in the hallway because she was in love with him. During his time searching for Voldemort's Horcruxes with Harry and Hermione, Ron matured greatly, and even took to leading the trio when Harry temporarily fell into a depressive mood.
Appearance
Ron inherited the typical Weasley family traits: fiery red hair and a freckled complexion. When he became embarrassed, his ears notably turned red. He had blue eyes, a long nose, and was described as being very tall and lanky, with big hands and feet. In this way, his stature was similar to those of his older brothers Bill and Percy, rather than the heavily built Charlie, and Fred and George.
