This article is about Roku from the Netflix series. For the original character, see Roku (Avatar).
- “We share the same spark, but we are our own people. I'm different from Kyoshi, just as you are different from either of us.”
- ―Roku to Aang
- “Aang! I hope that you're able to save your friends. But the truth is, for the Avatar, friends can be a liability. The Avatar has to make the impossible choices, placing the world's needs ahead of your needs. On that, Kyoshi and I agree. Trust me. It'll save you and the ones you love a lot of pain. ”
- ―Roku to Aang about how the Avatar makes toughest choices and foreshadows his friendship with Fire Lord Sozen

Background[]
Roku was born into a pristine and noble Fire Nation family and had a falling out with one of his friends (heavily implied to be Sozin).
In the past, Roku traveled into the Fong of Lost Souls within the Spirit world, where he came face to face with the malevolent spirit, Koh the face stealer. The Avatar and the spirit entered in a great battle between each other, which resulted in Roku stealing a relic that belonged to the face stealer's mother, the Mother of All Faces.
Just before the start of the 100 Year War, Roku eventually died and reincarnated as Avatar Aang of the Air Nomads.

Trivia[]
- Roku's statement to Aang, "But the truth is, for the Avatar, friends can be a liability" is nod/foreshadowing how his friendship with Fire Lord Sozin fell apart, which was touched upon in the original cartoon series' Book Three: Fire episode "The Avatar and the Fire Lord."
