Renee Montoya is a fictional character in the Batman franchise and a major character in the Batwoman franchise. She is a voice detective who works for the Gotham City Police Department and a vigilante protecting Gotham City. She acts as the main love interest for Kate Kane, the first Batwoman. On the Prime Earth continuity, Renee has become The Question.
She was initially created for Batman: The Animated Series by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and Mitch Brian. Her first appearance in comics was Batman #475 written by Alan Grant.

The Prime Earth version of Renee first appeared in New 52 DC Universe in Batwoman (Volume 2) #1 by J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman.
Gotham was her first live-action appearance, portrayed by Victoria Cartagena, who reprised the role inthe third season of the Arrowverse series Batwoman. Her cinematic debut was the 2020 DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film Birds of Prey, portrayed by Rosie Perez.
