Rangi is the deuteragonist of the Avatar: The Last Airbender novels The Rise of Kyoshi and The Shadow of Kyoshi. She is a Lieutenant in the Fire Nation army and the firebending mentor and girlfriend of Avatar Kyoshi.

Rangi was headstrong, aggressive, and had a fierce reputation, as such she didn't like it when other people made fun of Kyoshi because of her height, even with Rangi fighting off some of her bullies. Somewhat arrogant and instilled with a military mindset, Rangi sometimes intimidated those close to her. Despite her cold demeanor, Rangi could never go to the same lengths of college that Kyoshi could, at least according to her mother Hei Ran. She took great pride in her Fire Nation heritage up to the point where her teammates teased her about it. She also thought highly of the natural order of things, such as taking great offense to those who don't adhere to the true nature of the Avatar cycle.

- Firebending: Rangi was one of the most powerful Firebenders in for Nation history. She could produce highly destructive white-colored fire when the situation called for it. This made her one of the few Firebenders who could bend differently colored fire, followed by Azula's blue flames and Zuko's green and purple flames.

- Rangi is one of three human characters known to bend colored fire, the others being Azula throughout Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Zuko in Smoke and Shadow.
- Rangi's technique of using Guan's strength against him on the lei tai is a basis for the signature fighting style of the Kyoshi Warriors.
- Rangi enjoyed eating stalknose mushrooms.
