- “Randy: Sir, are you ready for this?
Captain Stottlemeyer: What is this? A game show? Can't you just walk in here and say what you have to say?” - ―Stottlemeyer and Randy
Randy Disher is one of the two tritagonists of the crime drama series Monk and its multimedia franchise. He is Leland Stottlemeyer's partner, Sharona Fleming's second husband and a close friend of Natalie Teeger and Adrian Monk.
His far-fetched theories and comments about the cases Monk works on are a running gag of the series. Apart from his extremely ridiculous theories, which often involve defying the very laws of physics, Disher appears rather competent within his own range of abilities.

Novels[]
Appearance[]
Randy is a handsome, lean man with dark brown hair, blue eyes and fair skin. He often wears suits, white collared shirts and colorful ties.
Personality[]
Randy is a skilled detective, marksmanship and master investigator who often asks "are you ready..." when presenting evidence to Stottlemeyer." His work at the SFPD has practically made him Stottlemeyer's right hand man. Stottlemeyer mentions in Mr. Monk and the Blue Flu (a tie-in novel) that he's very efficient when managing ordinary homicides. It is proven that Stottlemeyer does think highly of Randy despite his wild tehories getting on his nerves. However, when Randy was given a farm in his uncle's will, Monk finds that Randy does not know how to run it. He forgets to feed the animals every day and ignorant that his tractor is broken.
One of Randy's quirks re some of his out of universe theories that get some people questioning his skills, and even seeing him as less mature than Monk can be at times. He once had a theory that a robot was killing all the women named Julie Teeger like the one from the Terminator franchise eliminated a series of girls named Sarah. However he proposed his more sane theory of a serial killer being obsessed about his mother instead. Randy's other reasons for letting out these theories are the fact that he is trying to keep up with both Leland and Adrian. However, he is still a master detective who is one of San Francisco's finest.
He is fairly close with Leland Stottlemeyer, Adrian Monk and Natalie Teeger and often clashed with Sharona Fleming, who would often tease him mercilessly. However, in season 8, Sharona and Randy later kiss and begin a long distance relationship, eventually moving to New Jersey to be with her.

- Cat: As revealed in "Mr. Monk and the Missing Granny," Randy is severely allergic to cats. Whenever he is in the proximity of a cat, he starts sneezing like crazy. When he didn't sneeze at the suspects house, Monk came up with the conclusion that the couple didn't have a cat and had to be lying about owning that chair.
- Farm Work: He kept forgetting to feed the animals and replace his tractor.

- Randy is usually driving a tan or silver Ford Crown Victoria with a Mars light attached to the inside rearview mirror. He mentions in Mr. Monk Can't See a Thing that he is considering purchasing a Ford Festiva.
