R2-D2 (sometimes spelled out Artoo-Deetoo) is one of the main protagonists of the Star Wars universe. He is one of the few characters who appear in all three of the trilogies, appearing as one of the main characters of the Skywalker saga
He is a minor character in Rogue One , Star Wars Rebels , and Star Wars: Forces of Destiny .
R2 was puppeteered by the late Kenny Baker in the original trilogy and Jimmy Vee in the sequel trilogy.
History [ ] Personality [ ] Due to his memory never being erased, R2 has personality. Due to being Anakin's astromech, he possessed much spirit, sarcasm and defiance, as noted by General Grievous. He was also a loyal astromech, who was heavily afffiliated with his masters, Anakin Skywalker and Skywalker's children, Luke and Leia.
Artoo also showed himself to be inspiring, as he gave Luke the hope to train Rey after showing him Leia's holographic message back from A New Hope . This inspiration also went to difficult situations, as he was quick thinking, resourceful, and according to Leia, able to "beep" himself out a of jam. In addition, he showed himself to be adventurous, being a foil to his fellow friend C-3PO, who was always nervous and anxious.
R2-D2 was an R2 series astromech droid from the R series production line produced by industrial automation. He had an all terrain mode and three appendages, two legs and a retractable wheel, allowing him to move around like a Mars rover. He was given a masculine programming, and a diminutive height only standing at at least 3 ft 6. He rolled on three wheels and often used his rockets to fly. He was plated in blue, silver and white platings and his sensor often flashed between blue and red. Whenever R2 was distressed his sensors flickered. He was also equipped with a buzzsaw, a compartment where he hid Luke Skywalker's and Ahsoka's lightsabers in Return of the Jedi and the Clone Wars episode, "A Friend in need". He also had a Ark welder used to repair broken parts of the ship and a fire extinguisher handy in order to stop anything in the ship from exploding. He also had anHoloprojector he used to display both Leah and Luke's messages in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi and a Mark IV Locomotion System.
