Prince Eric is the deuteragonist of the 2023 live action remake of the 1989 film, The Little Mermaid. He is a twenty one year old man who is the Prince of an unnamed kingdom. His life is saved by Ariel, the mermaid princess, and becomes determined to find the woman who saved him.
Role in the Film[]
Eric was orphaned due to a ship-wreck, killing his biological family. Eric was later adopted by King Maximillius and Queen Selina, living the life of a prince. He developed an interest in seeing thew world while his parents became isolated from the rest of the world. However, his mother was very protective of him because she lost her husband the same way.
Personality[]
Prince Eric is an adventurous young man who enjoys sailing and wants to see the world. His personality is very similar to Ariel's, one of the reasons Ariel falls in love with Eric when she realizes that he is just like her.
Difference from the original film[]
- Prince Eric has his own solo: "Wild Uncharted Waters."
- "Fathoms Below" plays during his birthday instead of being the opening number.
- Eric turns 21 not 18.
- Eric is a prince by birth in the original story and the Disney film not adoption
