The Philosopher's Stone is the titular object in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Sometime before Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Nicholas Flamel created the stone in order to prolong his lifespan via creation of an Elixir of Life. It can also turn any metal into pure gold. Voldemort sought out the stone to restore his life after being defeated by Harry Potter after his defeat in Halloween 1981. However, Harry foiled Voldemort yet again, thus prolonging his return for another three years.
History[]
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them[]
While living in Paris in 1927, Flamel kept the Philosopher's Stone on the shelf of a drawer, where it could be seen when he met Jacob Kowalski.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone[]
Somehow, the stone remained in the vaults of Gringotts Wizard Bank before it was transferred to the Hogwarts Castle. The staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry came up with ways to protect it beneath the castle. It was placed in a special chamber protected by Professors Sprout's Devil Snare, Flitwick's Winged Keys, McGonagall's life-sized board of Wizard's Chess, Quirrell's mountain troll, Snape's potion riddle and the mirror of Erised. It was underneath a trapdoor guarded by a Three-headed Dog Fluffy beneath a trap door. Harry accessed the Philosopher's Stone because he did not want to use the stone and protected the Stone from Professor Quirrell and Voldemort, who could not use the stone to restore his own body.
Afterwards, Dumbledore mentions to Harry that the Stone will be destroyed.
