The Phantom Zone is a parallel dimension from stories associated with The superheroes Superman and his cousin Supergirl.
It first appeared in Adventure Comics #283 (April 1961), and was created by Robert Bernstein and George Papp. It was frequently used in the Superman comics before the continuity was rebooted in the 1980s, after Crisis on Infinite Earths, and has appeared occasionally since.
Description[]
The Phantom Zone is a prison like parallel universe, trapping criminals who commit heinous crimes against Krypton. Jor-El was infamous among the criminal community, because he sent most of Krypton's most dangerous criminals in The Phantom Zone including his former best friend General Zod and his followers, the Phantom Zoners.
The Phantom Zone is also a place where time does not pass and it's prisoners remain ageless, making people trapped there for eternity.
Trivia[]
- Lois Lane was the first human trapped in The Phantom Zone. She time-traveled to Krypton before it was destroyed and was accidentally teleported to The Phantom Zone by Jor-El. Because time does not pass there Lois remained ageless there and spend the last 20 years trapped there until Clark saved her.
- In post crisis stories, Clark even traps some of his most dangerous human enemies there such as The Toyman
- In some adaptation such as Supergirl, If she escapes Krypton with her cousin Clark, Kara ends up trapped in The Phantom Zoneyears at least 20 years. When she comes out of it, she's still the little girl when she arrives on her. However Clark is usually growing up by the time she arrives.
