Peter Pettigrew (also known as Wormtail) is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Bellatrix Lestrange) in the Harry Potter franchise. He was once friends with James Potter, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin (forming the Marauders), but betrayed James and Lily by selling them out to Lord Voldemort. After blame was placed on Sirius for the deaths of twelve Muggles, Pettigrew, using his Animagus form, posed as Scabbers, Percy Weasley's pet rat before giving it to Ron Weasley. He was unmasked during Harry's third year, where they formed a life debt bond after the teenager chose to spare him.
In 1998, at Malfoy Manor, Pettigrew remained hesitant to kill Harry, however, the silver hand Voldemort gave him choked him to death, fulfilling his lifedebt to Harry. He was portrayed by Timothy Spall.
