Peter Hale is one of the two secondary antagonists-turned-anti-hero of the MTV series Teen Wolf.
He is a powerful Omega werewolf who comes from, the Hale family, a long, ancient line of werewolves. He was the biological father of Malia Tate, the uncle of Derek Hale and the younger brother of Talia Hale.
During Season One, Peter was the mysterious Alpha werewolf killed his niece Laura in order to steal her powers and sired Scott McCall to get revenge on Kate Argent and those involved with the Hale Fire six years prior to the series. However, he was later stopped by his nephew Derek, Scott and their allies, Allison and Chris Argent, Jackson Whittemore and Stiles Stilinski. In Season Two, Peter' spirit lingered onto Lydia Martin due to her Banshee powers and he manipulated her into bringing him back to life. Ever since his resurrection, Peter has alternated between supporting anti-hero to a straight up villain after his resurrection. Despite helping the McCall Pack defeating the Kanima Darach and the Nogitsune, Peter grew jealous of Scott's powers and conspired to steal them by temporarily aligning himself with Kate Argent while he secretly planned on betraying her. However, he was bested by Scott in battle and sent to Eichen House.
In late 2012, Peter broke out of Eichen House the night the McCall Pack went to rescue Lydia Martin. However, he was caught by the Ghost Riders after escaping and Peter was sent to the Phantom Station. In Season Six, Peter returned to being an ally of the McCall Pack in fighting the Wild Hunt, Tamora Monroe and Gerard Argent. By 2015, Peter had become a trusted aly of the Pack, who came and went as he pleased after being redeemed by the love of his daughter, Malia.
In 2026, he once again aligned with the McCall pack in stopping Adrian Harris, the Nogitsune and the Oni, in a battle that cost his nephew Derek's life.
Biography[]
Early History[]
Peter Hale was born in the mid to late 1970s to unnamed parents. He was the younger brother of Talia Hale, one of the most powerful Alpha werewolves in the entire world. It was heavily implied that Peter had been jealous of his sister's abilities, due to his power-hungry nature. In his childhood, Peter would often break his toys in fits of anger. When Peter attended Beacon Hills High School, he joined the basketball team and became a star player. He eventually graduated sometime in 1988. Due to his younger age, Peter was closer in age to his nephew, Derek Hale, and niece, Laura. However, he was "a bit older" than Laura and Derek and it is presumed that Talia was her brother's legal guardian. During his youth, he "watched" over Derek, but was spying on him to get what he wanted. However, In 1995, Peter had an affair with the Werecoyote Corinne, who was a ruthless assassin known as "The Desert Wolf." The relationship resulted in the birth of his daughter, Malia. However, his memory of his child and relationship was soon erased when Talia used her claws to perform the memory removal ritual. She did so because she wanted to prevent Corinne from killing Malia and likely because Talia knew of Peter's power-hungry nature.
It is at least revealed that, at best, Peter had mentored Derek into controlling his transformations. However, Derek once threatened to have him banned from the school grounds. At one point, he saved his life from an Argent Hunter and helped him hide underneath the Nemeton until they passed.
After seeing Derek with his girlfriend Paige Krasikeva, Peter manipulates Derek into allowing him to get an Alpha (Ennis) to give Paige the Bite. He believed that she was strong enough. However, Paige's body rejected the bite and had to be mercy-killed by Derek. To protect the supernatural world from the humans, Peter took Paige's body and left it to be found at the reserve. The deputy sheriff, Stilinski, and his department ruled her death as an accident of the animal attack.
A few weeks later, Peter went to Beacon Hills High School's locker room during the basketball championship. He found Derek trying to gain control of his transformations, which he seemed to have struggled with since Paige died. The younger werewolf had gone against his parents' wishes so he could play the game Friday night because the team needed him. Peter tried talking him the Mantra "Alpha, Beta, Omega" after telling him to take out the Triskellion pendant Derek took. However, Derek could not; instead, Peter taught him how to use anger as an anchor (and Wolf later suggest a similar thing with Scott).
At some point prior to the fire, Peter took an innocent life, turning his once golden eyes blue.
Six years prior to the series, Kate Argent and her cohorts set fire to the Hale fire, killing many members of Peter's family. Unfortunately, Peter and his niblings, Laura, Derek and Cora were the only survivors. Derek and Laura had been in school when the fire happened and Cora disappeared and ran away to South America at the age of eleven. Peter suffered severe third degree burns and was left in a catatonic state. While he was recovering in the Hospital, Peter swore to start a dead pool to kill supernaturals in Beacon Hills and allow him to reshape it in his image. He also blamed his older sister Talia, believing they would have been strong enough if they had fought against the Argents in the first place. iWhile he was unconscious, the banshee, Meredith Walker overheard his plans as if he was standing and talking directly to her. This is what encouraged Meredith to start the Dead Pool in Peter's image but she bided her time and didn't realize that she was listening to the ramblings of a madman until it was too late. However, Peter had forgotten about his rant. Instead, he focused his vendetta against the Argents, the ones responsible for starting the fire in the first place. He felt trapped in his mind and body, wishing to do harm to those who wronged him regardless of their innocents.
However, Peter was left in a catatonic state, and lived at the rest home section of Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital. With each passing full moon, Peter regained his strength and was assisted by his nurse Jennifer in stealing Laura's powers. They lured Laura to Beacon Hills by burning the vendetta spiral in the carcass of a deer. There, Peter killed Laura (either intentionally or accidentally), stealing her spark and becoming the Alpha. However, it is unknown if Peter was completely himself when he killed Laura or if he had no control over it as he claims to Derek. .
Unfortunately, Laura's murder drew Chris Argent, his family and later Derek Hale back to their hometown of Beacon Hills.
Peter's Revenge[]
Turning Scott McCall[]
Peter was out on the woods the night Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski looked for the remains of hi son ices body. Why Peter was out there remains unknown; however, it is possible he was there trying to hide Laura from being discovered. After Stiles and Scott separated when Stilinski caught his son, Peter found Scott looking for the inhaler that he dropped. Peter mauled Scott and bit him without his consent.
Later the next night, Peter called Scott out in the middle of the night and secretly stalked his werewolf progeny. Scott noticed the Alpha was following him through the mist in the wood and began running from him. He was able to escape Peter by jumping over the fence and into a neighbor's pool.
Personality[]
Peter Hale is, as described by Melissa McCall as a "Dangerous con man" who uses his wit and cunning to outwit his enemies, and always has a devious plan in motion. According to Ian Bohen, his character's once gold eyes turned blue when he made his first innocent kill many years prior to the series but after his nephew Derek. It also brings in with the question as to whether or not Peter had intentionally murdered his niece Laura for her power is unknown but he recalled it as "not his best act." So it is implied that Peter unintentionally harmed her and her only meant to steal her powers. Unfortunately, his power hungry nature sometimes gets the better of him; despite trying to steal Scott's werewolf powers, Peter later failed to do so because he did not count on Scott triumphing over him. He also needlessly attacked teenagers and even forced Scott to eradicate his pack consisting of Allison, Jackson, Stiles and Lydia.
However, this proves to be true because of Peter's love for Malia. Despite initially seeing her as a tool for his quest in power, he grew to genuinely love his daughter. It made him change for the better, after he protected her and Scott from the Ghost Riders, which even gave Malia heartbreak because he refused to help her earlier. His emotional tether to Malia allowed him to wake up from his catatonic state in the Phantom Train station. His worst fear was something bad happening to Malia, as shown when he warned her not to fall in love with Scott because he was going to get himself killed. In the series finale, the Anuk-ite (a creature that takes the form of the thing you feared) mimicked Malia's voice forced Peter to look at it and get petrified. However, as soon as he was freed from the Anuk-ite's statue, Peter fought back against the hunters for everything they did to him and his family.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Werewolf Physiology: Being an Omega level werewolf, Peter possesses their common powers. However, Peter is also one of the most powerful Werewolves in the series, despite beign an omega. After his resurrection, Peter weakened in his powers for several months. However, he regained a powerful strength compared to Omega standards.
- Super Strength
- Super Speed
- Super Durability
- Super Senses
- Superhuman Smell: Peter said he was one of the best trackers in the world when he was helping Chris and Melissa hunt down Allison Argent in The Movie. He used super smelling as ways of tracking her and the Nogitsune. He could also smell and track Kate Argent underneath a water treatment plant He could identify his daughter's scent from several floors away when she, Kira and their pack broke in to rescue Lydia from Eichen House.
- Superhuman Hearing: Peter could recognize the Berserker's roar from a distance and the Ghost Riders during the wild hunt before Malia. This is partially due to him being captured by them previously. If possible, Peter would be able to hear Lydia's banshee screams or a werewolf' show if he was from a mile away
- Regenerative Healing Factor: With each passing full moon, Peter grew stronger. He was able to heal is third-degree burns in moments. However, this power is no longer available due to Peter's death, resurrection, and demotion to an omega werewolf. Derek was able to reattach his uncle's severed hand so he could use his sister's claws
- Werewolf Howl: Peter emitted a howl hard enough for both Scott and Malia to hear him. It allowed him to signal other packs members and other werecreatures to his location
- Shapeshifting: Peter could transform into a lupine-humanoid, gaining muttonchops, a ridged forehead, glowing blue eyes (formerly) red. He could also turn into a gigantic man-beast before his death and resurrection.
- Memory Manipulation
- Longevity: Peter is capable of living longer than a normal human due to his cellular reproduction being slower than a normal human.
Former Powers[]
- Alpha Powers: Being an Alpha-level werewolf, Peter has some of the powers and abilities of a Standard Alpha.
- Power Granting: Being an Alpha, Peter could turn anyone into a shapeshifter. He succeeded in turning Scott McCall from a human to a werewolf. However, it failed with Lydia Martin due to one of her banshee powers being supernatural immunity. However, being sixteen years old, Lydia's latent powers were activated two years earlier than she was supposed to; Banshees normally get their powers when they come of age at eighteen. He also scratched Kate Argent too deeply that it was powerful enough to turn her into a Werejaguar. He also plotted to turn Stiles, Allison, and Melissa to have leverage over Scott. However, this failed because Stiles rejected having powers, Allison was saved by Scott multiple times, and Melissa was (indirectly) saved by Stiles when he purposefully ran his jeep into her car.
- Alpha Roar: The ability to use a roar to scare away supernatural creatures or force a were creature in or out of transformation. He used the roar against Scott so he could turn into a werewolf and kill his friends
- Healing Disruption: Peter could disrupt Omega and Beta-level werewolves' regenerative healing factor. He used this power on Derek and Scott when he wounded them in battle. However, for some reason, Peter slashed Scott across the shoulder when he tried saving Myers from dying, it healed the next day.
- Beast Alpha Form: As an Alpha Werewolf, Peter used to have the ability to transform into a large, monstrous wolf-like beast with black fur, crimson glowing eyes, and large claws and fangs
Weaknesses[]
- Wolfsbane: Werewolves are inherently weak if exposed to wolfsbane or Wolfsbane bullet/weaponry to prevent the victim from healing. If he were to injest it from a drink, Peter would see hrorific hallucinations. Additionally, yellow can weaken or kill Peter. However, he can be saved if the wolfsbane is burned out of his system.
- Mistletoe: As a canine were-creature, mistletoe is poisonous to Peter and other werewolves. He could get seriously ill as seen with Cora Hale and reaction would be a mixture of blood and vomit.
- Mountain Ash: Peter cannot enter a barrier or leave a building made of mountain ash. However, Peter could use mountain ash against other supernatural creatures, showing it can be used for offense or defense. It is also capable of killing him, as seen when Sebastian Valet was killed by his sister with a weapon formed with mountain Ash and wolfsbane.
- Electricity: Electricity temporarily renders Peter without his powers for a while. It is also one of the few things capable of wounding him or killing him. When he and Derek were being tortured by the Calavera family, the electrical fence surpessed his powers
- Letharia vulpina: The plant is capable of weakening/suppress Peter's powers and shapeshifting abilities. Deaton injected a Nogitsune possessed Stiles, who had been attacking him.
- Full Moon: The Full Moon enhances Werewolves powers. Due to being born a werewolf, Peter would rarely fall under its disasterous effects. However, under certain conditions, Peter is still capable of losing control during this time.
- Lunar Eclipse: When a lunar eclipse occurs, Peter will be rendered powerless until the event is over.
- Modified Canine Distemper Virus: A modified version of the Virus was created by The Chemist that would cause the werewolf or any canine were-creature to become sick and eventually they lose their sight before they are killed off.
