Otulissa is a major protagonist of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series by Kathryn Lasky. She is a Spotted owl in the book and a distant descendant of Hoole, the first king of the Great Tree.
She was initially an aquaintance and rival of the Band and was initially just extremely arrogant to the point where Soren and his friends couldn't stand her. However, Otulissa grows as time goes on and grows to become one of Soren's best friends to the point where she is practically a sister. She was close with Strix Struma, admiring her in a way that Soren did with Ezylryb.

Background[]
Otulissa was born in the Kingdom of Ambala. When her parents and aunt went out and didn't come back, she fell out of the nest' to see if they were there. However, Soren initially doesn't believe this be the case and thought she was trying to fly before she was ready. However it was revealed that Otulissa was telling the truth and she was indeed an orphan. Eventually, she and the only family she had left, her Nest-maid Audrey, came to the Great Tree.

Because of her seemingly unlimited knowledge, she can be very full of herself and stuck up at times yet is at heart a kind-hearted and loyal owl. This is actually what made the Band hate Otulissa at first until they saw the kind of person she really is. Two of Otulissa's most notable achievements were the crucial role she played in strategizing preparations for the Battle of the Burning, then the mentoring Coryn, son of Nyra and Kludd, within Beyond the Beyond and bearing witness to his subsequent retrieval of the Ember of Hoole.

Otulissa is a spotted Owl with dark brown with pale marks forming an X between the eyes, chest and belly are marked with large, oval white spots, dark-brown overall dappled with white. Her facial disks are dark brown with pale marks forming an X between the eyes
In Exile she had to have her starboard, or right eye removed, as it had been severely damaged in the battle with the Striga.
