Ori is a fictional character in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In the live-action film adaptation, Ori is portrayed by Adam Brown.

Background[]

Official Description[]

Younger brother to Nori and Dori, Ori is a talented artist, and can often be found drawing and writing in his journal. It is Ori who chronicles much of the journey through The Wild to the shores of the Long Lake and the slopes of The Lonely Mountain. Polite and well-bred, he is used to be being bossed around by his older brother Dori and is usually biddable, although occasionally he can surprise his fellow companions with his courage and determination
―Warner Bros.

Personality[]

Ori is regarded the youngest of the dwarves and comes off as polite, caring and a very brave lad. It could be because he was raised by Dori, his older brother to be polite no matter who they are. His caring nature is even extended to Bilbo Baggins, who is an outsider among the company. Ori was also one of the few dwarves initially kind to Bilbo, while most of them coldly rebuffed him at the beginning of the journey. Despite being treated a sheltered life, Ori is in fact a very brave person, and is willing to do anything to ensure his family's and friends' safety. To take a total level of bravery, Ori confidentially proclaimed he wanted to go up against Smaug, and wanted to, in his words, "put a dwarvish iron right up his jacksie."

Ori loves his brothers and friends more than anything and has proven to be a very loyal friend able to help any of his friends in need. He also secretly admires Nori, which worries their other brother Dori excessively.

Tolkien Books[]

The Hobbit[]

Ori has a small role in the original novel by J.R.R. Tolkien In the novel, he is one of the five Dwarves in the fourth group to arrive in Bag End. He played the flute. He later fought the Battle of the Five Armies.

Ori later went to the expedition to Moria, where he was killed by Orcs

Middle-Earth Film Saga[]

The Hobbit trilogy[]

Ori appears in The Hobbit trilogy, played by Adam Brown. Unlike the novel, Ori has a much larger role in The Hobbit Middle-earth film series. In that iteration, Ori is the half-brother of Dori and Nori through their mother and they are remote kinsmen of Thorin Oakenshield. He also wields a sling-shot as a weapon and eventually uses a sword.

His fate is initially left ambiguous in the film, and he presumably dies in Moria like the book.
