The Order of the Phoenix are a group of witches and wizards featured in Harry Potter.
History[]
First Wizarding War[]
As Lord Voldemort (Tom Riddle) created his own followers, Albus Dumbledore retaliated by creating his own organization to fight back against Voldemort. Among them were many of his closest friends, allies and former students. At the end of the War, the group was disbanded after Harry's first defeat of the Dark Lord.
Second Wizarding War[]
After the return of Lord Voldemort in the fourth novel, Dumbledore created a new incarnation of the Order of the Phoenix, including former members (such as Moody, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black). The group's secret headquarters was 12 Grimmauld Place, Sirius Black's home.
The Ministry's denial of the Dark Lord's return led to the Order taking on the responsibility of protecting Harry Potter and the prophecy at the Department of Mysteries. Following a fierce battle on 18 June 1996 involving the Order, Dumbledore's Army, and the Death Eaters, the Ministry eventually acknowledged the truth.
In the subsequent year, the Order faced the loss of their leader and the Ministry falling under Voldemort's control. Despite this, they continued to operate as an underground resistance, safeguarding Muggles and spreading the truth throughout the darkest days of the Second Wizarding War. When called upon by Dumbledore's Army on 2 May 1998, they joined forces to confront Voldemort and his followers for the final showdown at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Battle of Hogwarts concluded with Voldemort's defeat by Harry Potter and a resounding triumph for the Order and their allies.
