But we have gained an ally in our battle against the forces of evil. Forces too powerful for any of us to defeat on our own. But together, we might just have a chance.
―Optimus Prime closing lines

Optimus Prime is one of the main protagonists of the Transformers reboot film series, serving as a supporting character in the 2018 film Bumblebee and one of the two main protagonists of the 2023 standalone sequel Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (alongside Noah Diaz).

He is the leader of the Autobots and has a close friendship with B-127, AKA Bumblebee, serving as his mentor and father figure. He charged him with finding a home for the Autobots, the Earth until more arrived. It was a place for the Autobots to regroup but they ended up stranded there for 8 years.

In 1994, Optimus kept the Autobots' existence a secret from humanity until Mirage brings a human to their lair. They are all dragged in a three way war between the factions: the Terrorcons, the Maximals and the Predacons.

He is voiced by Peter Cullen, who voiced his Michael Bay, Generation One and Transformers: Prime incarnations.

History[]

Background[]

Optimus Prime was born Orion Pax, one of the creations of the god, Primus With the threat of the Decepticons during the Great War, Optimus Prime became the leader of the Autobot resistance. During the War, Optimus fought alongside Arcee, apparently his longtime friend, and formed very close, father and son like friendships with the young Autobots scout B-127 (who would become known as Bumblebee).

During the final conflict on Cybertron in 1987, Optimus ordered the evacuation of the Autobots as his forces were overrun by Decepticons, who tried preventing then from leaving the planet. He realized B-127 was not among them until he arrived at the last minute, where Bumblebee helped fight off Decepticon reinforcements. Optimus told Bee about the planet, Earth, a place Prime and the other Autobots could regroup. Until then, he charged Bumblebee to protect the planet until he and the others arrived. After giving a heartfelt goodbye, Prime, not wanting to risk his friends' lives, offered everyone to evacuate. He stayed behind to fight off Decepticon forces so his people could escape.

Believing the Autobots will fall without their leader, Optimus was ruthlessly hunted down by Decepticon bounty hunters Shatter and Dropkick. While they failed, they captured his ally, Cliffjumper and mercilessly tortured him for information on where Prime was. However, Cliffjumper, refused to knew his location refused to give him up, so Shatter killed him. However, Bumblebee's beacon signal was accidentally activated by 18-year-old girl Charlie Watson and revealed to the septicons that Bumblebee was on Earth.

However, their plan to bring Decepticons to Earth before the Autobots could claim the planet were both foiled by Charlie and Bumblebee. Finally arriving on the planet, Optimus transformed into a freight truck and was reunited with Bumblebee on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Later that night, Optimus met Bee in the woods, becoming well aware of his friend's voice box being destroyed. Prime congratulated "B-127" for his efforts to keep the planet safe for them. However, B-127 insisted his new name was "Bumblebee," a name he adopted by Charlie Watson. Prime acknowledged his friend's new name as more Autobots arrived on the planet.
