The Oni are the secondary antagonists of the second half of Season 3 of Teen Wolf. They also appear as major antagonists of the 2023 Paramount+ film, Teen Wolf: The Movie.
They are a group of ancient Japanese spirits made of pure dark energy usually affiliated with Kitsunes and Skinwalkers. Many people believe that the Oni are unstoppable creatures, but they can be defeated by a weapon made of silver.
In late 2011, The Oni initially served Noshiko Yukimura and searched for a dark spirit living among the Supernatural community by taking on a host. However, the Nogitsune took control of the Oni in the last two episodes.
One of the Oni killed Allison with its sword; however, her death was avenged when Chris made his own silver heads and killed the Oni in defense of Derek, Ethan and Aiden before they helped him. Unfortunately, Aiden was killed by one of the Oni shortly after Allison was.
Fifteen years later, the Nogitsune was freed by Adrian Harris in 2026 and killed a Kitsune deputy of Beacon Hills to acquire his nine tails, which he used to summon nine Oni. Additionally, an amnesiac Allison Argent, their former victim, was resurrected as part of a ritual by Scott, Lydia and Malia. However, they were destroyed by the McCall Pack members and their allies for good and their commander was destroyed by Jordan Parrish and Derek Hale, but at the expense of the latter's life.

Season 3[]
After learning that the Nogitsune was inadvertently freed from his prison in the Nemeton by Scott McCall, Stiles Stilinski and Allison Argent, Noshiko Yukimura, her husband Ken and daughter Kira moved from New York to Beacon Hills. There, she summoned the demonic Oni by breaking most of her tails in half and forcing them to search for the Nogitsune among the Supernatural community, attacking the supernatural members of the McCall pack. On October 30th, they first tested Isaac Lahey in the Argent apartment. After Chris and Allison found him on the floor, they asked him what happened and Isaac recounted the Oni attacking him and leaving behind a backwards five behind his ear. Chris knew what the creatures were but told Allison and Isaac that they should keep this secret from Scott and their friends for twenty four hours. During this time, Argent tried finding out the true nature of the Oni by hunting down Katashi but he was unsuccessful. On Halloween night, the Oni later attacked Derek Hale in the parking lot. At the same time,Lydia Martin and Ethan Steiner were attacked at the Halloween party in the Hale loft. Fortunately, Isaac and Allison found Ethan and Aiden and Danny found Lydia, who told them to warn Scott about the Oni being here. Like Isaac, they were all marked their victims with a Japanese sign meaning "self" to distinguish them from the other Supernatural creatures who remained unchecked. They were unable to check Scott, Aiden, and Kira when morning came. As soon as the sun came up, the Oni disappeared into the daylight.
The following day, Argent revealed his past with the Oni to Allison, Scott, and Isaac. Believing the Oni will come after Scott next, Argent, Allison, and Isaac band together and get more information about the Oni. Meanwhile, Aiden and Ethan offered to protect Scott due to their goals of making things right with him and becoming members of his pack. Unbeknownst to him, Derek followed Scott around all day and watched him from a distance. However, Scott and Kira were able to ditch The Alpha twins by pulling out their sparkplugs from their motorcycles. They retreated to Scott's house, hoping that the Oni wouldn't get past the Mountain Ash in his floorboards, and waited for Melissa to come home because she was the only one who could activate it. When they heard the door opening, Kira and Scott came downstairs, where they found Rafael instead. Just as Scott's father interrogated them about breaking into his office, the Oni appeared and stabbed Agent McCall in the abdomen. Melissa created a Mountain Ash barrier before tending to her ex-husband while Aiden, Derek, and Ethan came in Kira and the McCall Family's defense. Meanwhile, the Oni were successfully breaking down the Mountain Ash barrier
After Allison, Isaac, and Chris learned what the Oni were, Allison called Scott and told him that the Oni were just checking him and Kira to see if they were hosting the Nogitsune. After hanging up with his ex-girlfriend, Scott and Kira allowed the Oni to scan them for the dark spirit. After proving that Scott and Kira were not the Nogitsune, the Oni left as Derek, Ethan, and Aiden ran to check on their friends. At the end of the day, it is revealed the dark spirit chose Stiles to become his host due to his more vulnerable state compared to Scott and Allison. The Oni attempt to make their move but they flee when The Nogitsune kills one of the Oni's fireflies. Scott, who came to the hospital after his dad was stabbed by the Oni's swords, found Stiles and was naively unaware of what had occurred in the room before.
Season 5[]
Another Oni was affiliated with the Skinwalkers as part of their test for Kira to prove which part of her was stronger, Kitsune or human.

- Silver: Silver is the only thing capable of killing an Oni, a fact discovered by Allison Argent when she successfully killed one with one of her silver arrowheads in defense of her boyfriend, Isaac. This also applied to Chris Argent twenty years ago, as his silver bullet damaged it's mask and shattered it into millions of pieces. In order to avenge his daughter after her death, Chris used Allison's arrowheads and killed Onis to save Derek Hale. During Teen Wolf: The Movie, Melissa McCall and Allison presumably used silver-tipped arrows to successfully kill the Oni when they were trapped in Bardo.
- Daylight: The Oni make their attack at night, as they came to the Hale Loft looking for the Nogitsune among Scott's pack. However, they vanished at sunrise.
- Firefly Removal: They can also be killed when the firefly animating them is removed, as demonstrated by Void Stiles removed the firefly of an Oni in the hospital.
- Lacking Free Will: This is their biggest weakness, as they will be loyal to the Kitsune who summoned them in the first place. An "ownership" change can occur as shown when the Nogitsune stole Noshiko's Oni and made them loyal to him instead.

- Fireflies are associated with the Oni, as they were foreshadowed to play an important role in Season 3B during Chris's and Deucalion's conversations with Scott in the episode "Fireflies" and "Alpha Pact."
