Heroes and Villains Wiki

Omashu is one of the greatest Earth Kingdoms in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

History[]

Oma and her lover Shu originated from separate villages that were rivals with one another. In a difference from the TV series, Oma and Shu are adapted as females. Oma and Shu often met each other in secret. They learned Earthbending from the Badgermoles and created elaborate tunnels they could only get through. They followed the glowing crystals within the tunnels so they could escape.

According to legend, the two lovers learned to move the Earth from the Badgermoles, becoming the world's first Earthbenders and they carved elaborate tunnels that would eventually be called the Cave of Two Lovers so that those who followed them would be lost forever. However, when Oma waited for Shu, the latter never came. She had learned that the man had been killed defending his village from a raid.

Heartbroken, Oma used her devastating Earthbending powers; instead of destroying the two villages, she declared the war to be over. Together, Oma and the two villages created a new city where they could live together in peace and harmony. The city would eventually be named after the two lovers, Omashu, and the secret tunnels remained. Oma and Shu were entombed with each other and their story was told on the cave walls.
