Norman Osborn, better known as The Goblin or Green Goblin, currently known as the Iron Patriot) is the main antagonist turned supporting protagonist of the TV series Ultimate Spider-Man. He is the main antagonist of the first season, one of the two main antagonists (alongside Doctor Octopus) of the second season, the overarching antagonist of the New Warriors arc, and the main antagonist of The Spider-Verse arc in the third season, and a recurring supporting character in the fourth season. He constantly disregards his son Harry and teams up with Doctor Octopus to make a clone army of spider soldiers with Spider-Man's DNA, unaware that Spider-Man is Harry's best friend, Peter Parker until the later half of the series.
History[]
Background[]
Norman Osborn was one of the most brilliant scientists of his generation. After graduating college, Norman founded Oscorp, a very well-known scientific research facility. Due to his status, Norman developed a rivalry with Tony Stark, as their companies both grew competitive with each other. At one point, he came across Otto Octavius' research and came to respect it. Norman commissioned Octavius to test weapons to benefit Oscorp. However, the experiments went wrong and grievously wounded the scientist[1].
Turning Otto into Dock Ock[]
Norman did all the necessary things to keep Octavius alive, even building an OsTech iron lung suit with four mechanical tentacles to give Doc Ock's the air he needed. However, this was for selfish purposes, as Norman didn't care for Octavius. He kept him in an underwater lab under the Hudson River, hiding him away from the rest of the world so no one ever knew about Otto's survival. Despite claiming to be Otto's friend, Norman's thinking was one-sided, as Doctor Octopus saw this more like a prison sentence[2].
In 1997, Norman married Emily Lyman and had a son named Harold (Nicknamed Harry). Because of Mrs. Osborn's absence in the series, it is unknown what became of her. Raising Harry alone, Norman often pressured his son to do better at school and build a better social life. However, this would come across as parental negligence.
On their way home one afternoon, Harry noticed Peter Parker stranded outside in the rain and offered him a ride home. Taking an immediate liking to Peter, Norman began to voice his hopes that a boy like him could be a friend to Harry due to his struggles in school. An argument nearly broke out between father and son, until Peter intervened, telling Harry that he had a father to help push him to succeed. Mr. Osborn asked if Peter was talking from experience; however, Peter informed Harry and Norman that he never had the chance to know his father. Instead, he had his uncle Ben make him the person he is today. Osborn took the information to heart, and as he predicted, Harry and Peter ended up becoming best friends.
Plot against Spider-Man[]
One year before the series, Norman's researchers also created a genetically altered spider that bit Peter and gave him his powers. After Spider-Man began showing up in New York City, the two evil men plotted to steal Spider-Man's DNA to be cloned by the superhero and build a spider Army [3], unaware that Doc Ock planned to betray him [4].

Relationships[]
Family[]
Harry Osborn (Son)[]
Before his transformation into the Goblin, Norman had a very strained relationship with Harry, his only child and son. According to Harry, Norman micromanages everything in his life down from his grades to his social life. Peter Parker notices the tension between the father and son but tells Harry his father's just looking out for him, in his way. Most of the time, Norman kept Harry at arm's length, often scolding his son to get higher grades. Of course, most of the time, Harry is somewhat resentful of Norman because he always neglected him due to his busy schedule being in charge of Oscorp. This neglect is significant when Norman leaves Harry alone with $1,000 rather than hearing why Harry is feeling envious of Peter's newer friends. When Harry became Venom, Norman was very impressed with his son's new potential, but he felt extreme disappointment when Harry gave it up. Despite this, Mr. Osborn puts Harry's safety his top priority, as he is angry at Doctor Octopus for sending the Frightful Four to his son's high school. When they were at the doctor's mercy, Norman begged Octavius to leave Harry out of their squabble, but Doc Ock refused. After they were saved by Spider-Man, Harry and Norman reconciled. However, after Norman was turned into the Green Goblin and Peter was too dedicated to his career as Spider-Man, Harry felt more alone than ever and blamed the vigilante for his father's mutation As the Goblin, any love Norman had towards his son, had become twisted, as even Harry couldn't stop his dad from kidnapping Peter or restoring his dad to his former self. After Norman was cured, Harry was happy to see his father restored. However, things were never the same after that. It was even better.
After the Green Goblin incident was over, Norman became a completely different person and a better father to Harry. For example, Norman created a set of armor for him to protect himself and gave his son a Patrioteer suit. He also had developed an antiserum that made him immune to Doc Ock's goblin serum. This way, the doctor couldn't turn Norman or any other innocent person into the goblin again, all for the sake of Harry. However, he could become overprotective of Harry, up to the point where Norman refused to let his son join the SHIELD Academy until convinced by Spider-Man. The decision would lead Harry to be critically injured during his and Peter's fight with the anti-venom symbiote, falling into a comatose state, and Norman to blame Peter for putting his son in danger However, despite this turn, Harry eventually woke from the comma in the Symbiote Saga.
in "Graduation," Norman was going to attend the SHIELD Academy graduation and kept Spider-Man's secret identity because of Harry's friendship with him.

- Norman has had a better relationship with Harry since the incident.
- Became the Iron Patriot to protect his son and make things right with the world.
- Teamed up with Spider-Man and helped him fight the Frightful Four, Doctor Octavius, and the Spider Soldiers.
- Before Doctor Octopus turned him into the Green Goblin again, Norman helped the other heroes fighting HYDRA.
- After Norman is cured a second time, he doesn't remember anything afterward. he created an antiserum for Doctor Octopus' Green Goblin serum and injected himself with it. It makes him immune to the injection's effects, showing that Norman will never become the Green Goblin again, a promise he intends to keep to Harry.
- He doesn't let Harry join the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy in fear for his safety but relents. After Harry was attacked by the Anti-Venom, Norman blamed Spider-Man for being responsible for Harry's coma. (However, this is mostly a father expressing anger that their do not like it when their child is hurt) However, he later forgave the vigilante, presumably after Harry woke from his coma.
- After remembering Peter Parker was Spider-Man, Norman kept it secret in return for everything Peter has done for his family, such as being a friend to his son and helping them many times (such as Iron Man's suit going haywire, being a friend for Harry, etc.
- In the series finale, Norman helped depowered Peter Parker after he was forced to take a serum that reversed the spider bite's effects.
