I was just a young changeling when I first heard it. Alone in your human world. But there, opening night- when the curtain rose, and the orchestra swelled... Peer Gynt is a little boy who stumbles into a mountain of trolls. He faces a troll king, who tells him, "To thy self be true, and who cares what the world thinks?" But it's just a play.
―Nomura to Jim Lake Jr. and also the foundation of her nickname for him

Nomura (known by her human alias Ms. Zelda Numora) is the former antagonist turned anti-hero in Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadi who once served Gunmar. After bonding and escaping the Darklands with Jim, she defects the Gumm-Gumms and becomes an ally to the Trollhunters.

After being rescued, Nomura left Arcadia Oaks in what appear to be a desperation to get away from the town in case Gunmar came back. In actuality, she was searching for Walter Strickler, at the two returned to Arcadia Oaks to aid the Trollhunters in the final battle against Gunmar and his forces during the Eternal Night War.

History[]

Early Life[]

When Nomura was a young Changeling, she went to the famous play, "IN the Halls of the Mountain King." She became fascinated with the play's musical tune, often whistling it on a daily basis.

She once had a relationship with Draal, but that broke up when the latter found out Nomura was a Changeling working for the Janus Order.

Nomura made a cameo in "The Last Knight on Earth", where she and Strickler accompany Claire and Toby for the "battle of the Bands" and help evacuate the children there.

Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans[]

Personality[]

At first, Nomura was a ruthless, sarcastic, and sadistic changeling like most of her brethren. She was loyal to Gunmar, wished to bring him into the human world to cause chaos, and would hurt anyone who tries to get in her way. She was arrogant and walked with a swagger. She constantly taunted Jim and Draal during their meetings before she was sucked into the Darklands.

After being tortured by Gunmar for “entertainment” and for her failure in letting him return to the world above, Nomura had time to reflect o n herself and feel remorse for her past actions. She is also pessimistic, as she refused to believe Jim’s claims that his friends would come and rescue them both. However, during her time in the prison, she and Jim formed a friendship with each other, enough for her to willingly sacrifice herself and fight Blood Goblins in order to make sure that Jim and the Trollhunters escape.

Fortunately, Jim and the rest of the team have considered her a good ally and friend, goingwhenrescue her from the Darklands when Draal left his post. She later helps the team defeat Gunmar and Morgana's forces despite apparently abandoning Arcadia Oaks in fear of Gunmar at first.

Despite this, she still remains a deadpanned snarky and sarcastic woman. Zelda also developed a hatred towards goblins due to them constantly attacking her throughout Season 1.

Trivia[]

  • Nomura was the second antagonist to reform, following Strickler.
  • In Japanese, Nomura means 'field village' or 'wilderness village'.
    • Coincidentally, she shared her surname with Kichisaburo Nomura, who was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy and diplomat to the U.S during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
  • Nomura enjoyed whistling Peer Gynt as it was her favorite opera play as a youngling. This means she was a "child" around the year 1876 back when the aria was first written.
