- “Are we fighting this alone, or are we fighting it together?”
- ―Noah Diaz to Kris Diaz
Noah Diaz is one of the main protagonists of the rebooted Transformers films, serving as one of the two main protagonists (alongside Optimus Prime) of the 2023 film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
He is an ex-military engineer who lives in Brooklyn, New York, who becomes entangled in a three-sided war between the Autobots, Maximals, and Terrorcons in a fight against Unicron. In desperation to support his family, Noah steals a Porsche 935 car that turns out to be the Autobot Mirage, who is both his best friend and protector.
History[]
Background[]
Noah Diaz is a young man who was born and bred in Brooklyn, New York, with his single mother, Breanna, and his ailing younger brother, Kris. Because of a lack of a father figure in his life, Noah had to embrace his role as the man of the house. He and his brother were very close, nicknaming each other "Sonic and Tails" because of Kris' paranoia that the government were listening in on the air waves. Prior to 1994, Noah joined the U.S. Army as an engineer and had earned the rank of private. However, he was let go from service and returned home. Allegedly, his commanding officer commented that Noah could not commit to teamwork and was considered unreliable. Since then, Noah tried finding work for him to support his sick brother but struggled to get ones.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts[]
Personality[]
According to Elena, Noah is similar to Optimus Prime: protectors who are both fighting for their homes and older brothers simply looking out for their own. Upon the beginning of the film, Noah is already shown to be a tech expert by simply fixing a device for his friend, Reek. He was also once a soldier but was released from service for allegedly "not working well with others." However , he has an obligation to look out for his mom and younger brother. Due to The apparent lack of a father figure around him, Noah tries filling in the role, such as supporting Kris with his illness and helping his mother around the house, as seen with his poor attempt at cooking. Since the Diaz family merely consists of himself, Breanna, and Kris, Noah tries his hardest to support his family and pay for his brother's medical bills. When his job interview was canceled, Noah decided to resort to stealing with a job Reek gave him. However, Noah grew nervous about stealing a car and, at the last minute, realized he was not a criminal. When the car came to life, Noah started screaming when he and the car were chased by the police.
After the car chase, Noah was initially terrified to see the car turn into a sentient robot. However, he refused to back down to Mirage and threaten him with a steel pipe. Impressed, Mirage took an immediate liking to Noah. However, he was immediately afraid of Optimus Prime when they met for the first time. Initially reluctant to help the Autobots gain the Transwarp key, Noah changed his mind when Mirage convinced him to help. However, he was quick to judge people when he first met because Noah dismissed Prime as being cynical and uncaring. He is very honorable, as he also came back to save Elena from Freezer when Noah had the opportunity to flee. When he realized the Earth was in danger because of Unicron and his Terrorcons, Noah forced his way into the journey to Peru, mainly because he planned to betray the Autobots when he found the key because he didn't trust Optimus with the fate of his planet. However, Noah also did so to save his family and people but never takes into account Autobots' plight until Optimus convinced him not to destroy the key.
Noah also seems to form strong bonds with other people and takes his friendships seriously, growing notably closer to Optimus, Elena, and Mirage. He became fire forged friends with Mirage, who came to respect his bravery. He also helped distract Elena from her air sickness and saved her life at least three times. He also returned to save Optimus at the last second and managed to do so.
By the film's end, Noah is a man with a noble heart. He realizes he had selfish reasons for destroying the key and finally acknowledges his mistakes. after a heart to heart conversation with Optimus, Noah rallies support from both the Maximals and the Autobots. When Noah was powered by Mirage's exosuit, he fought alongside Optimus, Bumblebee, and the Autobots, even managing to stab Scourge in the leg. His newfound loyalty for the Autobots led Noah to becoming brothers in arms with Mirage and coming back for Optimus. This also includes his absolute refusal to sell them out to Agent Burke, who respected that about Noah. He also succeeds in fixing Mirage, and both get their revenge on Reek for abandoning him to the cops during the car chase. When in doubt, you can always find yourself relying on Noah at the end of the day.

Trivia[]
Character notes[]
- Noah's dog tags hang in his bedroom and revealed his middle name is Leon.[1]
- It is currently unknown whatever happened to Noah's father. His father either passed away long before the events of the film or he is divorced from Noah's mother, Breanna. Given the fact that there doesn't seem to be any pictures of Noah's dad around his apartments points towards the latter of the two.
- Like human leads Sam Witwicky and Charlie Watson, Noah is a young human who is attracted to the Autobots' war because they came to a car by chance. He is also proficient with alien technology, handling a Cybertronian Gauntlet that Mirage gives him.
- However, unlike the previous two, Noah has military background, and befriends Mirage instead of Bumblebee (at least until the end)
- Noah has the honor of being the first ever human in a Transformers movie to have a closing narration alongside Optimus Prime, perhaps to symbolize how Optimus now sees the humans as equals. Edward Burton was the first human to have a narration in one of the live-action movies, making Noah the second.
- Both Charlie and Noah have an absentee father, two younger brothers, and intelligence in mechanics. Charlie was able to fix her and her father's Corvette, and Noah was a former engineer for the military who was able to bring Mirage back to life.
- Because of the diverse cast, Noah is the first human lead in a live-action film to be Puerto Rican. Sam Witwicky and Cade Yeager were Caucasian males, and Charlie Watson is a Caucasian female.
- A Puerto Rican flag is in Noah's bedroom and is tribute to Anthony Ramos, who is half Puerto Rican in reality
- Like Judy Witwicky and Cade Yeager, Noah uses something to swing with as a weapon.
- When he first meets Mirage, Noah uses a steel pipe to threaten the Autobots with it.
- Judy uses a bat to threaten the sector seven agents in Transformers
- Cade uses his bat to scare off the property owner and potential buyers when his farm goes bankrupt.
References to other Hasbro media[]
- At the end of the film, Noah is recruited by the G.I Joe, who in the comics, have had an uneasy alliance with the Transformers, also hinting at a future crossover.
- Noah wears an exosuit similar to the ones that both Spike and Daniel Witwicky wear in the original 1986 Transformers film, which Steven Caple Jr. drew inspiration from.
- The gauntlet that Noah wears could be a reference to the ones that the Malto siblings from Transformers: EarthSpark wear. This allows their special connection to their Terran siblings.
- Noah is also somewhat similar to Raoul from the original G1 cartoon. They are both makes with Hispanic heritage so both steal an Autobot they mistake for a car for money.[2]. Both Raoul and Noah form a close friendship with their respective Autobot companions and each repair their respective partners after they suffer.
- He could also be concerned a younger Counterpart for Cade Yeager given they are both males forced to look out for their small family. They both wield Cybertronian technology and are the ones who find similarities with Optimus Prime and convince him that not all humans are that bad.
