“We fall because someone pushes us. We get up to push back.”
―Dick Grayson
Richard John "Dick" Grayson (also known as Nightwing and formerly known as Robin, Batman and Agent 37) is one of the main protagonists of the DC Universe.
He is one of the two deuteragonists of the Batman franchise (alongside Alfred Pennyworth), the main protagonist of the Nightwing comics, one of the main protagonists of Robin and the Teen Titans franchises and a major protagonist in Justice League and Superman franchises.
Dick was adopted by Bruce Wayne after his parents' deaths and became his partner, Robin. He later became known as Nightwing, after outgrowing his role as the Boy Wonder and became the protector of the city Bludhaven. Dick has been a founding member of the Teen Titans, the Titans, the Justice League, and the Batman family. For a brief time, he was Batman before his identity was exposed, Agent 37, a member of the Spyral and Talon when he had amnesia before becoming Nightwing once more.
Dick was a performer of Haly's Circus and the youngest member of the Flying Graysons, with his parents. As Robin, he became fairly close with Clark Kent and Alfred Pennyworth. Dick usually had a strained relationship with Bruce, but this changed when he learned Batman. Dick became one of the founding member of the Teen Titans, along with Wally West, Roy Harper, Garth and Donna Troy. As an adult, Dick was inspired by Superman on a tale of a Krypton bird, deciding to take the codename Nightwing, becoming the leader of the Teen Titans' adult counterparts, the Titans and a member of the Batman Family and a reserved member of Justice League. He briefly became Batman when Bruce was apparently killed by Darkseid, with Damian as his Robin until it was revealed Bruce was alive, becoming Nightwing again. He has also been Agent 37 when Bruce made him fake his death and temporarily Talon when Dick suffered amnesia before his memories were restored.
Nightwing has also been in romantic relationships with Barbara Gordon and Starfire, having on/off relationships with both women.

Relationships[]
Family[]
Bruce Wayne[]
Tim Drake[]
Dick and Tim reconciling.
Tim Drake is one of Dick's younger adoptive brothers.
When the character was first introduced, Tim knew Dick during his pre-vigilante days when he performed in Haly's Circus with his parents the Flying Graysons. He was also in the crowd when Dick's parents fell to their deaths and both he and his parents felt sympathy for the orphaned Dick Grayson. Many years later, Drake was able to deduce that Dick, Nightwing and one and the same when he recognized the signature move that only John and Richard Grayson could perform. Hence how Tim knew they were the same person.
Tim saught Dick out and tried to get him into becoming Robin again, because Batman always needs one. When Dick refused, he inspired Tim to take his place. After Tim was adopted by Bruce Wayne when his father was killed, the two former Robins became adopted brothers.
Jason Todd[]
Jason and Dick were both, at one point, Robin and later legally adopted by Bruce Wayne. However, there was more of a lukewarm meeting due to Jason feeling like he was living in Dick's shadow as Batman's "favorite Robin." Despite the obvious rivalry, Dick tries acting like an older brother for Jason.
When he was resurrected as Red Hood, Jason adopted a more bloodthirsty personality, much to the Bat Family's worry. When he learned Tim was the new Robin, Jason initially felt "replaced" by both of his brothers. However, Jason was able to reconcile with his family and adopt a calmer way.
Damian Wayne[]
Damian Wayne is the youngest of Dick's brothers. Being the oldest and original Robin, Dick was the first to warmly welcome Damian into the Batman Family and content with him being the new and current Robin. During the Knightfall sorry arc, Damian was the Robin to Dick's Batman when they believed their mentor and father, Bruce, was killed by Darkseid. At first hostile towards Dick, overtime, Damian found appreciation towards his older brother and was saddened when they couldn't be Batman and Robin anymore even though they were elated to learn that their father survived the attempt on his life. Despite this, Dick has become one of Damian's mentors and helps encourage him to becoming a great hero. Ever since then, they have a pretty tight bond that exists today.
Damian opened up to Dick about Alfred's death and how it had affected him. Grayson apologizes for not being there due to his amnesia and that point tells Damian he will always be his Robin. The two brothers make up and are closer than ever. Damian harbors a concern that Dick may have children of his own, fearing that his brother might forget him. Nevertheless, Dick assures him that this will never occur. They have mutually acknowledged their effectiveness as partners and frequently collaborate due to their past partnership. They have saved each other's lives on multiple occasions and have worked together on several teams. However, akin to typical siblings, Dick and Damian do not always maintain an ideal relationship and often engage in disputes. For a period, Damian perceived Bruce Wayne as favoring his older brother. Despite this, Dick's love for Damian is profound, and he is committed to protecting him, as their fraternal bond is unwavering and unconditional.
Love Interests[]
Barbara Gordon/Batgirl[]
Barbara Gordon is Dick Grayson's childhood best friend and one of his greatest loves.
Koriand'r[]
M'gann M'orzz[]
M'gann is one of Dick's former teammates who is also revealed to have romantic feelings for Grayson in the Prime Earth storylines.
Friends[]
Wally West (Best Friend)[]
Wally and Dick first met each other through their mentors, Dick's adoptive father, Batman, and Wally's uncle, Barry Allen. In the New 52, Wally revealed his support for Dick and Barbara's relationship, advising his best friend during his conflicting feelings for Batgirl or Starfire.
Due to their close relationship, Dick acts as a surrogate uncle to Wally's children.
Raven[]
In the Pre-52 comics, Raven and Nightwing are considered close friends due to both feeling like outsiders and rather similar background. She once appeared in one of Robin's dreams to reform the Teen Titans. Raven even sported a crush on Nightwing, but decided they were better off as friends. However, it was later revealed that Raven had unwittingly placed a love spell on Robin, causing her to falsely believe that she really loved one. However, Starfire later pointed out the two did love each other but rather, as friends. Due to this, Raven and Robin became close friends.
However, in the Prime Earth storylines, Dick is depicted as an adult and Raven is now a teenager. Due to this major change and a bigger age difference, Nightwing and Raven acted more like older brother-younger sister. Because of Raven's terrible relationship with her own biological father, she has a stronger father-daughter relationship with him.
Roy Harper[]
Roy and Dick have been close friends since their first meetings through their mentors, Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen, as well as being founding members of the Teen Titans.
Roy often teases Dick for his crush on Batgirl, sharing a brother-like relationship.
His story remains the same, becoming the Boy Wonder superhero, Robin before eventually moving onto his Nightwing career and patrolling Bludhaven. He is voiced by Josh Keaton and Scott Porter in the video game series.
Like the comic, Dick was first known as Robin, but later took on the name Nightwing. He also continued to work alongside Batman, In the first installment of the series, he mistook Cheetah for Catwoman and also teamed u with the Flash to take down Cheetah, Croc and Man Bat with Red Robin, Batman and the Flash. Dick later appears in the sequels Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem, helping figh toff against the Joker and Mech vs. Mutants
Dick Grayson, was the first Robin, later known as Nightwing like in the comics. He was voiced by Sean Maher. Unlike the comics, Dick is not welcome to Damian becoming the next Robin because of his arrogant behavior but slowly warms up to the idea. He also makes an appearance in Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans in a non-speaking role.
A version of Dick Grayson appears as one of the main characters in the television series Young Justice. He is voiced by Jesse McCartney. Dick is a founding member of the Young Justice and acts as a mentor to Tim Drake, the current Robin.
