Nian is a minor character in the animated series, Abominable and the Invisible City. He is a majestic, lion-like magical being who took others away due to his feelings of loneliness.
Role in the series[]
Background[]
Nian, hailing from the Magic Realm, resided in a secluded cave. Over time, feeling increasingly lonely, Nian began to capture magical creatures against their will. Regrettably, as the story evolved into legend, it was claimed that after seizing these beings, Nian ultimately consumed them.
Abominable and the Invisible City[]
Subsequently, it was revealed that Nian had been capturing creatures due to its solitary existence, having sought refuge in a nearby cave. Yi approached Nian with compassion, speaking gently and resting her hand on its nose, which conveyed that it was no longer alone. Once Yi overcame her initial anger, the Great Watcher transported Nian back to the Magical Realm, where it was reunited with other magical beings.
Physical Appearance[]
Nian resembles a male lion. He is quadpedal and has sharp dark grey claws on each paw. He has wide nose and fin-shaped ears. He has a small horn.
Personality[]
Nian was believed to be as malevolent as the mythological beings that governed him. Legends suggest that he lured creatures into his cave and devoured them. In reality, however, he loathed solitude and only captured the magical beings out of loneliness. Once Yi and Everest discovered this truth, Yi showed him compassion by gently placing her hand on his snout, ultimately forming a friendship with him.
