This article is about Mirage from the rebooted live action movies. For original live-action carnation from the Michael Bay era, see Mirage (Michael Bay's Transformers).
Mirage is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Elena Wallace) of the 2023 film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He is the best friend of Noah Diaz and a member of the Autobot resistance. He has the ability to create holographic images/illusions and transform into a Porsche 964 RS.
He is voiced by Pete Davidson, a veteran actor from Saturday Night Live. He is also known as the voice of Marmaduke and for his portrayal as Blackguard in The Suicide Squad.
History[]
Background[]
Mirage was one of the finest Autobots to serve underneath Optimus Prime. However, due to his young age, Mirage often ignored his orders.
Fall of Cybertron[]
In 1987, Mirage was one of the Autobots who escaped Cybertron's destruction and came to live on Earth to regroup. However Optimus and the Autobots were were left stranded on the planet and remained hidden from humanity. Mirage lived in the parking garage for years.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts[]
In 1994, Noah Diaz, a young human male and former military engineer, was convinced by Reek to steal the "car" to help support his family, including his ailing brother. He snuck into the castle.
Personality[]
Mirage is the Autobot equivalent of a teenager. He is friendly, intelligent, and elusive due to his ability to turn invisible and create duplicates of himself. He tries befriending Noah Diaz, a young man who mistook him for being very expensive Porsche that he was intending to steal and sell to support his family.
Mirage offered a fist bump and insisted they were friends when Noah did. Mirage is also loyal to the Autobot cause and his friends. He has been a spy and a recon soldier for centuries and protects his charge at all costs. However, he is rebellious, disobeying Optimus Prime's orders to remain hidden to humans by revealing him to Noah in the first place. He constantly makes jokes, is immature, and not thinking of the consequences.
Despite his flaws, Mirage is still a noble Autobot and fiercely protective of his friends, sacrificing himself to protect Noah by shielding him from Scourge's fire until was later repaired.
Powers[]
- Illusion Creation/Holographic:: Mirage can create illusions and duplicate himself through holographic projection. He created duplicates of himself when Mirage and Noah were being chased by a police officer.
- Exosuit Protocol: After being greviously wounded in battle by Scourge while protecting Noah, Mirage activated this protocol and gave him his exosuit for Noah to better protect himself at the same level as the other Autobots.
- Longevity
- Superhuman Stamina
- Super Speed
- Super Strength
Abilities[]
- Stealth/Elusiveness: Mirage is considered elusive. Due to this and his status as a spy and recon soldier, it is one of the most admiral traits of him.
Relationships[]
Friends[]
Noah Diaz[]
- “Tough guy, huh? I like that. I like that a lot.”
- ―Mirage to Noah
Noah is Mirage's best friend and charge since the day they met when Noah was trying to steal him for cash. The car chase and being threatened by a steel pipe by the human made Mirage immediately respect him. Unlike the other Autobots (apart from Bumblebee), Mirage did not mind Noah's presence. He also convinced Noah to help steal the transwarp key from the archeology Museum, in exchange for helping Noah get money for his younger brother's medical bills. When the Terrorcons ambushed then, Mirage was also glad to see Noah was still alive. Because the team needed to go to Peru, Mirage swore to have Noah's back, a promise he intended to keep up Kris. When they arrived in Peru, Mirage gave Noah a Cybertronian glove in case they reached trouble in the city.
After the group meet the Maximals, Mirage believed Primal would harm Noah when Primal ambushed the humans. So, he immediately threatened the Maximal leader until Cheetor pounce down him and Airazor had to relieve tension. When Noah tried to give him back the Cybertronian glove, Mirage tells him to keep it in case of emergency. During The Battle of Peru, Mirage protected Noah from Scourge's blast, with Noah nearly breaking down into tears. Even though he apparently died, Mirage revealed he was only horribly wounded, much to Noah's relief. He used the rest of his body to transform into an exosuit so his friend would be able to fight alongside the other Autobots.
During the films epilogue, Noah successfully repairs Mirage by using spare auto parts from an old Porsche. The boys get their revenge on Reek for abandoning them to the cops from earlier.
Kris Diaz[]
Optimus Prime[]
The leader of the Autobots, Optimus finds it hard to keep Mirage in line due to his inability to follow rules. For the past seven years, he told the young Autobot to avoid contact with humanity and stay hidden in plain sight. In 1994, Prime was not happy about Mirage bringing a human to their base, as their secret was exposed. Mirage also tries not to be disrespectful to Optimus but Mirage could not help but laughing at Noah's "crack" to the leader about not being much. Prime also immediately disagreed with his plan to send Noah in for the Transwarp key. Though Mirage disobeys Optimus Prime's orders from time to time, he still respects him as a leader. Despite their disagreements Mirage understands that Optimus's cynicism on Earth is because Optimus blames himself for their exile. This is proven when he explains this to Noah after being rude about Optimus' attitude.
By the end of the film, Prime shares both Mirage and Bumblebee's views that humans such as Noah and Elena are valuable friends and allies.
Elena Wallace[]
Mirage first met Elena when the Terrorcons attacked the archeology Museum in search of their missing key. Upon seeing Mirage, Elena was slightly amazed and afraid of him because she was unsure if he was one of the good guys or not. Even though Elena and Mirage barely interacted with each other, he views her highly as a friend. When he saw Optimus Primal apparently threatening Noah and Elena, Mirage pointed a gun at the gorilla, telling him to stay away from his friends.
Bumblebee[]
Bumblebee is one of Mirage's teammates and are implied to be around the same age. Like Bumblebee, Mirage shares an affinity with humanity and take immediate liking to both the Earth and their human best friend. Both of them disagreed with Optimus' view on humanity, even willing to give humans such as Noah and Charlie chances. However, of the two, Bee appears to be older and more mature in the "adult" Autobots' eye. Even though they did not interact in the film that much, Mirage and the other Autobots were all mournful when Scourge killed Bumblebee. However, this death was only temporary.
Trivia[]
- Mirage remains elusive and has the color scheme of his G1 counterpart. However, he transforms into a Porsche like Jazz and has Hound's ability to project holograms for disguise.
- Mirage's crack about Mark Wahlberg leaving the funky bunch and pursuing a career as an actor was ad-libbed by Davidson and a call back to Wahlberg playing Cade Yeager from the last two movies of the original Transformers films.
- It is quite possible that Mirage could be LGBTQ+ due to some of his comments to Noah throughout the film.
- Mirage was offended that Noah calls them "work friends" because Noah has been inside him.
- Later during the river scene, Noah tries to return the Cybertronian glove that Mirage gave him, The Autobot lets him keep it but also asks Noah to not ask what part of his body it came from.
- Mirage differs from his previous live-action incarnation. In the film, Dark of the Moon, he was a red colored Autobot with a thick Italian accent and turned into a Ferrari.
