Merlin is the titular protagonist of the 2008 BBC series of the same name. Destined to protect King Arthur, Merlin faces friends and foes alike and goes to help Arthur unite the Five Kingdoms. Merlin is based on the legendary figure of the same name from Welsh mythology and an allusion to Sir Bedevere.

    • Extreme Magical Resilience:
    • Immortality: According to Balinor, magical creatures can live forever. Because Merlin is the immortal sorcerer Emrys, he can live forever. However, he still aged, he was still alive by the time of the 21st century.

Abilities[]

  • Sword-fighting: Despite using mostly magic, Merlin actually has skills in sword-fighting. Arthur was mostly surprised when he saw Merlin easily take out one of their captors when they were going to escape.
  • Expert Crossbowman: Merlin could also use a crossbow and he and Arthur covered Tristan and Isolde while they were running away during Agravaine's attack in their camp.
  • Keeping Secrets: Merlin managed to keep the secret that he had magic over the course of six years while living in Camelot, even having been able to hide his secret for years
  • Skilled Physician: Over the course of the series, Merlin Learned to become a master physician due to being under his guardian, Gaius' guide throughout most of it all. He could identify herbs with ease, especially in season 3.

Trivia[]

  • According to himself, Merlin could move objects before he could talk (The Dragon’s Call)
  • Merlin referred to as a boy in the dragon's opening in series 1 through three but in series 4, Merlin began being referred to as a young man by Kilgharrah. Based on the fact Camelot's coming of age was 21, Merlin was considered a man by series 4.
    • By that standards, he was approximately 18 in series 1 19 in Season 2, 20 in series 3 and 21 in series 4 and 24 in series 5
    • Based on that information, Arthur is approximately three years older than Merlin because he turns twenty-one in the middle of Season 1.
  • In one episode, Gaius gives Merlin a plate that has chicken and tomatoes. However, Merlin's actor was a vegetarian and allergic to tomatoes.
  • His Druid name "Emrys" means "immortal."
  • Merlin has had two love interests: Freya (who he genuinely fell in love with) and Guinevere (Before she fell in love with Arthur)
    • He also had hinted attractions towards Nimueh (before learning her true nature), Morgana (before her descent into villainy) and Sefa
